Richard Gurian

GURIAN Richard Gurian, 91, passed away on July 23, 2009 at home surrounded by his loving family. He was a graduate at St. John's University and received his MBA from NYU. He was an Air Force Captain in World War II. After Dick's retirement as vice president of Lazarus Department Store, he became a retailing consultant at Management Horizons. Through International Executive Service Corps, he worked as a consultant for third world countries. During his twelve year stint in Sri Lanka, he started a natural foam rubber mattress company, Latex Green, which exports mattresses to the USA and Europe. Dick spent many years as an active member of SCORE, offering business advice and conducting business seminars. Dick will be deeply missed by his loving wife, Elaine; his children, Bonnie (David) Orlins, Cathy (Ron) Phillippi, and Jonathan (Marilyn) Gurian; as well as his grandchildren, Andrew (Jennifer), Matthew, Remy, and Zachary Orlins, and Jaimie and Jimmy Vann. Funeral service 1 p.m. on Sunday, July 26, 2009 at THE EPSTEIN MEMORIAL CHAPEL, 3232 E. Main St. with Rabbi Sharon Mars and Rabbi Emily Rosenzweig officiating. Burial to follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens Temple Israel Section. Shiva will be observed at the Gurian residence on Sunday from 7-9 p.m. and all day Monday.
