Richard Royer Obituary

Royer Richard L. Royer, age 77, of Upper Arlington, died May 27, 2016 at First Community Village. He was born on June 10, 1938 in Canton, Ohio to the late Ira Wilson and Grace (Lothamer) Royer. Dick was a graduate of Canton Lehman High School, class of 1956 and The Ohio State University College of Business, class of 1962 with a degree in Real Estate. After college, he was a lifelong resident of Upper Arlington. He started at the Real Estate Company of Kohr and Kohr in 1962 and spent his entire business career with partners Tom and Ted Kohr. In the early 1970's, the company became Kohr and Royer, and in the early 1980's, partner Mike Griffith joined and the company became known as Kohr, Royer, Griffith Inc. (KRG), which is still in business today. Dick was a MAI appraiser and realtor. He held many offices and board positions on for-profit and non-profit boards through the years. He was a past President of the Columbus Realtors, The Ohio Association of Realtors and the Columbus Rotary Club. Dick was a member of the Appraisal Institute and a past president of the local chapter. He was a long-time member of King Avenue United Methodist Church where he formerly served as head usher and a trustee. He loved classic cars and OSU sports. He always enjoyed lunching downtown at the Columbus Club where he was a member for many years. He was also a member of the Scioto Country Club. Dick loved the city of Columbus and Upper Arlington and felt truly blessed to be a part of life here in this city. He always lived by the saying "I have never met a stranger". In addition to his parents, Dick was preceded in death by his sister Rosanne Miller. He is survived by loving wife of 54 years, Ann; sons, John (Stacey) and David (Sara) of Upper Arlington; six grandchildren, Hannah, Libby, Sari, Riley, Alexis, and Luke; and sisters, Janet (Ernest) Svensson and Caroline (Harold) Ross. Family will receive friends 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, May 31, at the SCHOEDINGER NORTHWEST CHAPEL, 1740 Zollinger Road, where funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday. Rev. Stan Ling officiating. Interment Union Cemetery. Family requests in lieu of flowers that contributions may be made to Alzheimer's Association Central Ohio Chapter, 1379 Dublin Rd., Columbus, OH 43215, or the First Community Village Foundation, 1800 Riverside Dr., Columbus, OH 43212, in his memory. I met Dick in the mid 80's when I was handling condemnation cases and Dick was the appraiser. He was a consummate professional, evidenced by his success. How many times did I get a call from him just before noon, saying "Let's go". He would already be driving south on High St. and off we'd go. If I ever have another pecan ball, it will be in his honor! I will miss him greatly. God Bless Dick and his family.

Dick was one of my late husband, Chuck's and my favorite people. We enjoyed his gracious friendliness and as an appraisal colleague in the local MAI chapter.
