Richard Swonger Obituary

SWONGER Richard "Dick" L. Swonger, 71, of New Lexington, Ohio formerly of Cambridge, Ohio died at 6:26 p.m. on Friday, April 29, 2011, at Fairfield Medical Center Emergency Department, Lancaster, Ohio. Born May 12, 1939 in Columbus, Ohio to the late Floyd and Thelma Meade Swonger. Mr. Swonger was a retired manager from Krogers; and insurance agent, owned several rental properties and former owner of the Good Year Tire Center of Cambridge. He was a member of B.P.O.E. of both New Lexington and Cambridge; Masonic Lodge of Cambridge and the Scottish Rite of Cambridge. Survived by wife, Sandy Hewitt Swonger of the home; daughter, Cherie (Paul) Urdak of Cambridge; son, Greg (Shari) Swonger of Granville; daughter, Wendy Swonger of Worthington; step-children, Billi (Bill) Klingler of Junction City and Ricky Amburgey of New Lexington; 13 grandchildren, including Taylor Amburgey of the home; and one great-grandchild; brother, Tom (Jennie) Swonger of Chandersville; sisters-in-law, Tina Swonger of Columbus and Lisa (Dr. Brian) Varney of Bremen; mother-in-law and father-in-law, Ruth and Howard Bussey of New Lexington; special friend, Rod Hoffman of Crooksville. In addition to his parents, preceded in death by two brothers Bill and Charles Swonger and grandson Luke. Calling hours will be held from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. on Monday, May 2, 2011 at the ROBERTS FUNERAL HOME, 304 Mill Street, New Lexington, Ohio. Funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. on Tuesday, May 3, 2011 at the Funeral Home with Pastor Larry Ruh officiating. Burial will be in New Lexington Cemetery. I am so sorry to hear of this.My name is Owen Shaffer/wife Ruth and we moved to 3095 Wessex Ct. about 1961 or so.,in Columbus, Ohio.I recall Richard,his wife and their lovely 2 children and the many happy times spent side by side.Particularly I remember when they would make ice cream and invite us over.My wife,Ruth,died in 1995,I now live in a condo on the southEast side just past Ricarts Ford off of Rt.33.My address is 4804 Cypress Grove CT.,Groveport,Ohio,43125.My phone # is 614-567-6241.The death notice only served to bring bacl a lot of pleasant memories for me.My deepest sympathy is with his wife and rest of the family.
