1931 - 2018
Rita Roberts, age 87, of Columbus, passed away surrounded by family at The Village at Westerville Retirement Center on July 29, 2018 after a short battle with cancer. She was born on March 7, 1931 to the late Johannes E. and Sjoukje G. (Zanstra) Winkler in Amsterdam, Netherlands. She immigrated to the US in 1952, married in 1954, after having three children started her music career. She became an established private piano teacher, holding offices with the Westerville Women's Music Club and Columbus Music Teachers and Ohio Music Teachers Association. Rita is survived by sons, Dane (Kathi) and Norman (Miriam) Roberts; daughter, Audrey (Scott) White; grandchildren, Kelsey, Sean, Glen White, Nicole, Kaylin Roberts and Simon Roberts; sister, Maryke (Mike) DesChamps; nephews, Eric and Jon (Michelle); sister-in-law, Lorraine (Stacy) McCubbin; niece, Lynn; nephew, Jay. Along with her parents, she is preceded in death by her loving husband of 63 years, A. Kirk Roberts. The family would like to thank her close and supportive friends, the staff of The Village of Westerville Retirement Center and Heartland Hospice for the care they provided.
