Rita Shade Obituary

Shade Rita Joan Shade, age 85, of Reynoldsburg, passed away Monday, January 25, 2016 at Ross Heart Hospital. She was the co-owner of Shade's Restaurant on S. High St. and E. Main St. in Reynoldsburg. She was a volunteer cook for the children and staff at the Childhood League Center for many years. She loved surprising people with gifts of homemade food. She gave whatever she was able when she heard of someone in need. She loved dancing in Reynoldsburg community Minstral shows, decorating cakes, sewing and mending, and of course, making things clean. She always had a smile on her face and never knew a stranger. She is preceded in death by her husband Raymond L. Shade Jr., her parents, sister Barbara Colleen Teal, and grandchildren Craig and Marissa. Joan is survived by her children, Craig (Jan) Shade, Gary Shade, Beverly (Reggie) Blackburn, Randy (Johanne) Shade, and Carol (Alejandro) Rodríguez; grandchildren, Michelle (Lyle) Sawyer, Cori (Bryan) Williams, Shawnie (Pat) Susie, Raymond Shade, Gary C. Shade, Brandon (Melissa) Blackburn, Jordan (Lindsey) Blackburn, Taylor (Courtney) Blackburn, Audrey (Rob) Garey, Clinton Shade, Nathan (Rachael) Rodríguez, Carter Rodríguez, and Olivia Rodríguez; great-granchildren, Kyla, Jack, Natalie, Josh, Rocco, Brecklyn, Murray, Frazier, Adalyn, Evelyn, Harper, and Rohan; and many friends, nieces, and nephews. Her family would like to thank Wesley Ridge for their care over the last 20 months and all the friends she made there. Her family will receive friends on Thursday, January 28, 2016 from 2-4 p.m. and Friday, January 29 from 6-8 p.m. at COTNER FUNERAL HOME, 7369 East Main St., Reynoldsburg. They will also receive friends Saturday, January 30 from 9-10:30 a.m. at the funeral home, where her funeral will follow at 10:30 a.m. Pastor David Belcastro will be officiating. She will be reunited with her loving husband Ray at Glen Rest Memorial Estate in Reynoldsburg. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Cat Welfare, 741 Wetmore Road, Columbus, Ohio 43214. Sorry to hear of Mrs. Shade's death. My mother was one of her "neighbors" at Wesley Ridge. I'll miss Mrs. Shade's smile, and the "A cat lives here" sign which showed her love of cats.

Please let me extend my condolences to the whole Shade family on Joan's passing.AsJoan's Dentist for the past 50 years I've felt more like a family member than just her Dentist.Having had knee surgery this past week I will not be able to attend the funeral home showing but my thoughts will be with all of you at this sad time.

Bev and family, so sorry for your loss. Your mother was a great lady. Was glad I got to visit with her a few times at Wesley Ridge. I shared a few Spain trip pictures with her which brought a smile to her face.
