Robert Cherry Obituary

CHERRY Robert E. Cherry, 74, of Pickerington, passed away December 12, 2010 surrounded by his loving family. Robert was born October 11, 1936 to John and Margaret who preceded him in death. Also proceeded in death by his youngest daughter Colleen, son-in-law Doug and granddaughter Ashtyn Balcer. Graduated from St. Charles Preparatory High School in 1954, Xavier University in 1958, and the Ohio State University Graduate Business School. Robert was a teacher and coach at Bishop Hartley for 6 years. For the past 40 years he was a Sales Representative in the Orthodontic Field. Survived by his wife, Marilyn (Varley); sons, Sean (Annett), Mike (Tammy), Matt (Steve Schruers), all of Columbus; daughter, Kelly (Brian) Samborsky of Centerville, Ohio; grandchildren, Anthony Balcer, Christopher, Alyssa, Andrew and Anna Mary Samborsky, Dakota Cherry, Michaela and Alyssa Van Gundy, and William Cherry. Also survived by sister, Margaret (Krouse-Sallerius) of Mansfield, Ohio; and brother, Jack (Barbara) of Houston, Texas; many nieces and nephews. Robert loved the Indians, Browns, Cavaliers, Buckeyes, and Xavier Basketball. He also loved his Maltese "Falcon." In lieu of flowers, the family asks you to contribute to his favorite charity St. Josephs Indian School, Chamberlain, S.D. 57326, www.stjo.org/angel. His family will receive friends Wednesday from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at the COTNER FUNERAL HOME, 7369 E. Main Street. His funeral service will be held Thursday at 11 a.m., at Our Mother of Sorrow's Chapel at St. Joseph Cemetery, 6440 South High Street, Lockbourne, Ohio. Tho Bob and I have not seen much of each other following graduaItion from St. Charles and Xavier,I count him as a dear friend and classmate. My memories of him are vivid especially at Xavier.Tho I was not part of the gang at Marion Hall we were able to "socialize" at times. He always had a good word for me.
