Robert Gordon McGee

McGee Robert Gordon "Cider" McGee, 89, died November 24, 2014, at the Tidewell Hospice Care Center in Lakewood Ranch, Florida, as a result of a stroke suffered the prior week. He was born in Zanesville, Ohio on March 22, 1925, and lived in Columbus, Ohio before moving to North Carolina and subsequently Florida to live with his daughter and son-in-law following the death of his wife Bonna June in 2008. He was retired from Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Central Ohio. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the United States Coast Guard. He was formerly married to Virginia E. Spangler (deceased) of Newark, Ohio by which he had two children, a son, Gary Owen McGee of Alexandria, Virginia and a daughter, Anna Lynn Townsend of Parrish, Florida, both of whom survive him. Other survivors include: sister, Jane Ludman, 96, of Zanesville; son-in-law, Keith Townsend; step daughter, Lisa Cahrier; step son, Rick Bragg; four grandchildren, Shawn Haybron, Robert Townsend, Charissa Kincaid and Robert McGee; and two great grandchildren, Kaiden Townsend and John Paul Kincaid. He was a man of peace, a man of compassion, and man of gentleness and generosity; a man without guile or malice. He left all who knew him better for having been in their lives. According to his wishes, his earthly remains will be cremated, inurned, and buried beside the remains of his wife Bonna June which rest in Galloway, Ohio. A memorial service will be scheduled in Ohio after the holidays.
