Robert Reusche Obituary

REUSCHE Robert F. Reusche, 83, of Lake Forest, IL, passed away on November 15, 2011. Beloved husband of Mary Reusche for 61 years; loving father of Emily Reusche Selbe, Anne (David) Reusche, and Alec (Tracy) Reusche; devoted grandfather to Bob Selbe, Melissa, Ted and Tom Reusche, and Kiel and Lily Marzahl; dear uncle; cherished brother-in-law; and devoted friend and colleague to many. Bob graduated from Ohio State in 1949 and received his MBA from the University of Chicago in 1955. He retired as vice chairman of the Northern Trust Company in 1990 after a 39-year career in the trust department, including 18 years at its helm. During the course of his career he served on a number of association boards related to the trust business. Bob's extraordinary commitment to community and public service is known by all who knew him and his impact will be lasting. Among his many civic and philanthropic roles, Bob served as senior advisor at the Chicago Community Trust; founder and inaugural executive director of the Lake County Community Foundation; founding board member of the Health Foundation of Northern Lake County; life trustee and chairman of the Ravinia Festival; chairman of PADS of Lake County; trustee of the West Virginia chapter of The Nature Conservancy; board director of St. Ignatius College Prep; board director of the Lumen Christi Institute of Catholic Thought at the University of Chicago; president's council member of Heartland Alliance; director of the Bowman Health Center at Rush University Medical Center; trustee and board president of the Policeman's Annuity and Benefit Fund of the City of Chicago; president of the Board of Education, Lake Forest District #115; founding member of the Lake Forest Club; and life member of the Commercial Club. An avid supporter of his alma mater, Bob served Ohio State in numerous leadership and fundraising capacities including board member of the University Foundation; member of the College of Arts and Sciences Advisory Board; and founding member of the Humanities Dean's Advisory Committee. Bob and his wife Mary created the Robert and Mary Reusche Humanities Scholar Endowed Scholarship Fund and the Robert and Mary Reusche Scholarships for Study Abroad. As part of his lasting legacy at Ohio State, Bob established lacrosse as a competitive sport in 1949 and in recent years provided instrumental counsel and support to the team. Visitation: Friday, November 18, 5-9 p.m., WENBAN FUNERAL HOME, 320 E. Vine Street, Lake Forest, IL. Funeral Mass November 19 at 10 a.m., St. Patrick Catholic Church, 991 S. Waukegan Road, Lake Forest, IL. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to PADS Lake County, 3001 Green Bay Road, North Chicago, IL 60064, and the Robert F. Reusche Memorial Fund at the Lake County Community Foundation, 114 South Genesee Street, Suite 505, Waukegan, IL 60085.
