Robert Schmidt Obituary

Schmidt Dr. Robert Raymond Schmidt, July 11, 1929 to December 18, 2013. The Happiest day of his life was when his good friend Jim Stricker introduced him to Barbara Maffett. The Proudest day was when she agreed to marry him on June 14, 1953. They have five children, Neil, Nancy Lancaster, Bob, Chip and Mary. With seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Sarah R. Schmidt passed away at the age of two. A Bexley High School graduate, Bob attended The Ohio State University, receiving his B.S in 1951 and his D.D.S. Degree in 1955. While at Ohio State he was a member of the Marching Band, traveling by train to the 1950 Rose Bowl. He was a regular at home football games for almost 60 years cheering his beloved Buckeyes at the Shoe. Bob was also a member of Chi Phi at Ohio State. He practiced Dentistry for 35 years. He was a proud member of Aladdin Shrine as a band member of Charity Newsies for over 50 years. He never missed a Drive day to sell newspapers to cloth needy children each winter outside his dental office at James and Livingston. Member of the Athletic Club of Columbus since 1965, Bob ran in over 10 Columbus Marathons. He was a member of the Moose lodge in Venice Florida. Bob attended Bexley Methodist Church from the time he was a teenager and was an associate member of the Venice-Nokomis Methodist Church where he sang in the Choir. As a Life Master in the American Bridge Association Bob and Barbara met a wonderful circle of friends. As "Snowbirds" they met a host of dear friends at the Bird Bay Golf Club in Venice, Fl. From 1976 to 1987 Bob and Barbara owned and operated The Iyopawa Island Golf Course in Coldwater, Michigan where they have "summered" with their family for over 50 years. Please direct any remembrance to Charity Newsies. Heartfelt gratitude to Hospice of Venice Florida and our wonderful Doctors at Martha-Moorehouse and James Cancer Hospital at Ohio State and Venice, Florida!!
