Robert Whitman Obituary

WHITMAN Robert "Boomer" Whitman, age 67, of Upper Arlington, passed away, Sunday, April 1, 2007, at his residence. He was born March 17, 1940, in Brooklyn, NY to the late Louis and Ruth Helen (Shottenfeld) Whitman. Bob was a Computer Programmer for Rockwell International. He was a member of the Handball Association, and earned many tournament trophies. Bob is survived by his wife, with whom he has spent the last 32 years of his life, Alberta "Bert" (Edwards) Whitman; step-children, Dorothy Pearce (David) Winecoff, Robert Pearce, Elizabeth Pearce (Jeff) Brown and Leslie Pearce (Chuck) Johnson; 11 grandchildren, Matthew, Nickolas, Amanda, Christian, Corey, Jason, Abbigail, Linda, Cameron, C.J., and Molly; sister, Joan Frances Whitman; dear friend, Jamal "Jimmy" Hashisho; and many other handball buddies. Visitation will be held from 4-7 p.m. Thursday at SCHOEDINGER NORTHWEST CHAPEL, 1740 Zollinger Road, where the funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Friday. Bob was a very friendly, outgoing, athletic and extremely intelligent person who will be missed by all who knew him. Visit www.schoedinger.com to send online condolences.

I find it impossible to believe that the "indestructible" Boomer is gone. He had the soul of a saint, who never seemed to have an unkind or critical thought. His loving acceptance of everyone is something all should emulate. We will be less without him.

My condolences to the Whitman family. I had the pleasure of working with Bob at Rockwell International in Columbus, Ohio.
He was a software designer and I was assigned the task of checking out the software's operational features of the Integrated Operational Intelligence Center (IOIC). He was extremely intelligent.

I am sad, angry, confused and bereft. I will miss him every week for the rest of my life. This is an achingly hard reversal and I am sure the same can be said for many others.
