Roberta A. McGuire Ray

RAY Roberta A. McGuire Ray, age 74, of DeLeon Springs, Florida passed away Saturday, October 4, 2008. She was born March 22, 1934, in West Jefferson, the daughter of the late William and Helen McGuire. She moved to DeLeon Springs in 1980 from Columbus, Ohio after her husband John retired. Roberta retired from the DeLand Housing Authority in 2001 after eighteen years of service and retired a third time in 2008 as Clerk of the Circuit Court of DeLand. She enjoyed reading, movies, traveling and water aerobics. Roberta was a member of the Association of Widowed Persons for over twenty years and the Citizens Observer Program where she held an office for more than five years. She is survived by three children: a daughter, Melanie (Dan) Ramsey of Columbus; sons, Guy B. Corkwell of DeLeon Springs, Florida and Mark Compston of Columbia, Missouri; three wonderful granddaughters, Kristen (Tadd) Conkel, Korinne (Jason) Cline and Danielle Ramsey; two grandsons, Michael Holley and Nicholas Compston; sister, Patricia (Harry) Hanson of Deltona, Florida; two brothers, James (Eileen) McGuire of Columbus and Raymond (Joy) McGuire of Vinita, Oklahoma; brother-in-law, Junior Haley; sixteen nieces and nephews, many wonderful friends and classmates of West Jefferson. Roberta was preceded in death by her husband John (1986), mother and father (1984) and a sister Geraldine McGuire Haley (1998). Funeral Service will be held 1 p.m. Friday in the RADER-McDONALD FUNERAL HOME, West Jefferson with Rev. Paul Burgett officiating. Burial will follow in South Vienna Cemetery.
