When Kelley, our first born came home from the hospital in Alliance, Bert came to visit and help Marcia with the baby. Bert was very nervous about how our wonderfully trained German Shepherd, Thor, would react to the new baby. Thor had already been a member of our family for a couple of years and although Marcia and I were cautious, we really had little concern about how Thor would accept the new squally miniature person. He would assume his responsibility and look after her, just as he had with all of the little baby racoon and possum that I had brought home.
But Bert was nervous.
The first night, baby and Marcia retired to the loft of our little log cabin in Lodi. I came down the next morning and found Bert blocking the steps of the loft, where she had been all night, watching Thor, who was watching Bert and wondering who this strange person was who was taking such an interest in his new baby. In a day or so, each decided that the other was o.k. and not going to hurt the baby. So a truce took place and both got comfortable with each other.
Almost.
I often wonder if Bert ever knew how much we used David and Mary to help Thor get comfortable with older kids. Thanks guys. I think all of you had fun.
Goodby Bert. You were always my friend.

We are very sorry to hear of Roberta's passing, she was a wondeful neighbor and friend, and our heart goes out to her family.

We lost our mother and her friend, Virginia Boley, two weeks ago...Virginia, Roberta and Jim enjoyed many evenings together on Fortress Trail.

Our deepest sympathy
