Ronald E. "Ron" Gessel

1937 - 2016

Gessel Ronald E. "Ron" Gessel, 78, of Galloway, OH, passed away peacefully at home after a courageous battle with cancer with his family by his side on September 20, 2016. He was born December 5, 1937 in Columbus, OH to Cecil H. and Verona I. (Leasure) Gessel. Ron retired in 1996 after 37 years at Lucent, former Western Electric and AT&T. He was a longtime member of Madison Christian Church. Ron cherished his family and the many friends and former co-workers he considered family. He loved the outdoors including hunting, hiking, and especially fishing. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother Larry Gessel. He is survived by loving wife, Kathleen Gessel; son, Larry (Susan) Gessel; cousin, Lee (Carol) Christman; stepson, Todd Beckett; stepdaughter, Tammy (Dave) Sroufe; stepson, Briley (Darcy) Ritchason; stepdaughter, Dawn (Mike) Ferrell; ten grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; beloved mother-in-law, Becky Oliver; special longtime friend, Bill Wilburn as well as many other close family members and friends. Family will receive friends 2-5 p.m. Sunday, September 25, 2016 at SCHOEDINGER GROVE CITY CHAPEL, 3920 Broadway. Funeral service will be held 10:30 a.m. Monday, September 26, 2016 at Madison Christian Church, 3565 Bixby Rd., Groveport, OH with interment to follow at Sunset Cemetery.
