I have been away from Columbus for a number of years so I'm late to this thread. I was born and raised United Methodist and sort of "married in " to Christian Assembly. I went there for about 10 years and feel blessed by the people and pastors I met. One snowy day Sam preached a sermon that hit the mark with, so for the first time, I took notes. My life took me elsewhere and I was asked to deliver a sermon by a Methodist pastor in Delaware, OH. I had kept my notes so I delivered Sam's sermon on The Fine Art of Killing Giants. It was my first and last time at the pulpit, and it was my way of thanking Pastor Sam, honoring him, and saying goodbye. I will never forget him.

We are coming up on our 33rd anniversary. Pastor Sam united us in marriage and he will always hold a special place in our hearts. He counseled us in those early years and here we are 3 decades later still married! Hoping the hole he left in your heart is filled with the Lord!

Hi I loved pastor Sams preachings. He was so anointed by God. I loved him and I played the Piano for the church at Christian assembly on Wed nights. I grew as a christian and Love Jesus through that churches ministry Thank god For it. I also had counselling through Sams Ministry and always I had victory through the counselling at the church. God bless that man He will be in my heart and I know someday I will see him in heaven Amen

God in His wisdom has always known what's best for me, and He knew I needed to meet and have Pastor Sam in my life. I am a better person for having experienced his love, kindness and counsel. He taught me how to “let go and let God”, a sometimes-difficult thing for me to do, but a very necessary part of being a Christian. I miss him more than words can say, but I am grateful for the privilege of having he and Paulette in my life.

Dear Paulette and Family,
What a man! What a spiritual leader Pastor Sam was. Thank you and your family for sharing Pastor Sam with us for so many years. He was a wonderful man of God. It has been such an honor for Harriston and I to be under his teaching and leadership. Pastor Sam always saw the postive and good in everyone, even when they didn't see it in themselves. He blessed so many with his wisdom and knowledge. We pray God's strength for you Jeff (Kris) , Greg and the grandchildren everyday. It's Christmas time, and you know Pastor Sam has heaven all light up. And that memory along, Pastor Sam's love and passion for Christmas and the celebration of Jesus birth, makes us smile and gives us hope. We pray that God will continually grant you mercy, grace, peace and healed hearts. We love you so much. Blessings!

Dear Paulette and Farina Family,
Pastor Sam was such a special person who lived his life with a passion. He pursued things that had significance and impacted lives and the world for eternity.
I will never forget Sam’s many positive, encouraging and uplifting words for us. Sam was a generous man of God who taught us many lessons on life from God’s word.
What a blessing to have been able to hear Sam preach and to be under his Godly leadership for 25 years.
Pastor Sam continues to shape my live as I often remember his wonderful teachings.
He lives on through many as evident by the often referred to Samisms.
I am a better person and child of God because of Pastor Sam’s willingness to invest his time in my life.
I loved Pastor Sam and am so grateful for having the privilege to serve the Lord with him.
Pastor Sam will always be one my favorite people in the world. He still inspires me and many. I think of Pastor Sam as a second father.
Thank you Paulette for your unconditional love and support of Sam and for ministering with Sam for
so many years and giving back as so many lives were impacted for the Kingdom of God.
I pray that the Lord will bless and keep you and watch over you and your family.
In the Love of Christ,

Our thoughts and prayers have been with the Farina family and the Christian Assembly family this past year. Pastor Sam has been such an influence on our family. We will always remember his overflowing heart, his enthusiasm, his laugh, and his open arms. He was such an encourager and made us feel special from day one when we visited Christian Assembly for the first time. We are so BLESSED to have known him and been encouraged by his great messages. His love for God and his family is a great example for our family to follow. Paulette, we love you and support you. May God wrap his arms around you with comfort and strength. You have been so strong and gracious during this time. Thank you for continuing to share your life and love with us. Be encouraged! We love you!

The first time we attended service at Christian Assembly was Easter day in 1994. We were looking for a racially diverse family church and christian school for our children. We found that and so much more. We thank God every day for guiding us to Christian Assembly. We'll cherish Pastor Sam forever because he was a man of faith, love and conviction to the word of God.
Christmas was his favorite time of year and we enjoyed his numerous inspiring sermons. We think about him often and miss him very much.
Paulette and family, our deepest condolences and love during this Christmas season.

1st, our love to the Farina"s.
MANY ARE THE THINGS WE CAN SAY, BUT FOR THE SAKE OF BREVITY, 3 THINGS STAND OUT.
1. PASTOR SAM WAS AN ENCOURAGER. EVEN JOKINGLY PUTTING YOURSELF DOWN WASN'T PERMITTED. I KNOW, I TRIED. HE ALWAYS SAW THE GOOD IN YOU, EVEN WHEN YOU COULDN'T FIND IT YOURSELF.
2.WE TEND TO ELEVATE A PASTOR TO A HIGHER PLANE. BUT HE ALLOWED US TO SEE HIS HUMAN-NESS. THE GROCERY STORE STORY COMES TO MIND. BEEN THERE, TOO.
3.I STRUGGLED WITH OBEDIENCE ISSUES MOST MY LIFE. SEEING PASTOR SAM YIELD TO THE HOLY SPIRIT IN SERVICE, MANY, MANY TIMES OVER, ALLOWED ME THE FREEDOM TO YIELD MYSELF TO GOD'S WILL MORE WILLINGLY. IT CREATED IN JAN AND I A HUNGER FOR MORE OF GOD. I'LL NEVER FORGET THAT ALTAR CALL A FEW YEARS AGO!
WE ARE SO BLESSED PASTOR TORRY HAS THAT SENSITIVITY TO THE HOLY SPIRIT TOO.
WE MISS HIM, SURE, BUT, IN JESUS, WE HAVE THAT BLESSED ASSURANCE, AT THE TRUMPET SOUND, THE DEAD IN CHRIST SHALL RISE, WE SHALL MEET HIM IN THE AIR, AND WHAT A DAY OF REJOICING THAT SHALL BE!

Pastor Sam always loved Christmas...it was just one of the many things we all will remember about him...he said people were always just nicer during this holiday season. He lives on forever in our hearts. Paulette, Jeff, Greg and Kris...our hearts and prayers are with you...thank you for sharing him with us...we are all richer for having been giving the opportunity to get to know Pastor Sam. We truly saw Jesus through his life and ministry. And most importantly, we will see him again! Praise God. Merry Christmas. All of our Love: Louis, Marlene and Christopher Armstrong

I will aways remember Pastor Sam and he will always have a place in my heart. His smile, his words of wisdom, his father spirit, and his hands of healing are a few of my memories of Pastor Sam. One Sunday morning he told the congregation that the Lord told him to pray for those who suffered with migrain headaches. I had severe migrain headaches at that time. Pastor Sam called those of us who had migrains to the altar and laid hands on us and prayed over us. Another time Pastor told us that,"no one is born in this world by a mistake". That helped me grow within myself and and not feel ashame. And when I returned to the church after being away it was like Pastor Sam was the father and I was the prodigal son returning home and I remember him saying we are all family here. He was truly a leader called of God.
May God continue to bless the Farina family spiritually and physically and continue to give them peace in Jesus' name.
God bless

Sam was the best example of the unconditional love of the heavenly Father I have ever seen in someone. He always loved me no matter what I was feeling. Pastor Sam showed so much love to everyone, we truly felt he was our spiritual father. Several times over the years he would take time to a write to steve and me a note, telling us that God had brought us to his mind and told us what his prayer for us had been, it was alway right on the money. Out of all the many things and people he had to deal with on a daily basis, it meant a lot that he though enough about us that he took the time and told us how he appreciated us and how much he loves us. We miss him but we know that will only last a short time and we will see him again. Thank you for all you've been to us through the years.

Pastor Sam had an incredible impact on our lives and we will miss him tremendously. Words are inadequate to express how much he meant to us and our children.
He was an integral part of many important moments in our lives. He married us, dedicated our children to the Lord, and provided Godly wisdom and direction that helped shape our lives. His was always the voice of encouragement and hope – challenging us to trust God more.
He rejoiced with us in moments of victory and cried with us and provided compassionate counseling in moments of despair. We always knew our hearts were safe with him and he always lead us back to the Father. He exemplified God’s unconditional love more than anyone we have ever known.
Thank you, Pastor Sam, for loving us. We will honor your memory by the way we live our lives.
Our prayers are with Paulette and the God would send his Comforter to always be with her.
Lovingly,

As I read Pastor Sam's prayer's from our church bulletin insert on May 29, 2007, I was reminded of my first visit to Christian Assembly. Lost and troubled, I didn't know that my life would be forever changed, for the good, due to Pastor's obedience to do God's will. Pastor Sam, I will truly miss you. Even in correction, you showed the love, patience and kindness of no one I have ever known before.
I had so much more I wanted to share with you. Paulette, perhaps at a later time, I will have a chance to share with you more of what Pastor Sam has sown into my life. In Christ,

I praise God for Pastor Sam. I was often impressed by his OBVIOUS love and appreciation for his wife. He was never ashamed to express his heartfelt love for her, regardless of where he was.
I am personally grateful for the fact that I could contact him by phone or letter and expect a rapid response. I never took this lightly. I also appreciate the fact that when I met with him in his office, he never made me feel rushed, even when someone else was waiting for their appointment.
As I travel throughout our city, I am often stopped by someone who wants to tell me about how Pastor Sam impacted their life in a way they will never forget. We are truly blessed to have been shepherded by this gentle, faithful, godly man.

Dear Paulette and family,
A number of years ago, during one of his teachings on a Sunday morning, Pastor Sam related that Christians are like "weebles". We may wobble but we don't fall down because of our loving Father. Believe me when I tell you that through many tough times, this little nugget would come to mind and I knew that no matter what, even when the ride got wobbly, God would not let me fall. Pastor Sam taught of the Lord's steadfastness and faithfulness. Thank you Paulette, Jeff, Greg and Farina family for sharing Pastor Sam with all of us. He never failed to ask about my parents. May they and Pastor Sam enjoy the Lord's presence as they go before us. Paulette, thank you for being on the platform on Sunday mornings. It gives us all lots of encouragement to see you loving your Jesus in your praise and worship.

Years ago when I worked in the printing department the one thing I remember about you, Paulette, is that every time you walked into the room you were either humming or singing a song and it was refreshing to know that you had such joy in the Lord. During the same time our business was closing and Pastor Sam had come into the area ,and my question to him was, should I continue doing the same type of work or should I look for something that would be easier on me physically. His response was, "where is your ministry." My answer was, "that's where I am now." It has been 12 years and because of his direction, I have been Blessed every day in my job. I will love and miss you Pastor Sam.

A few years ago, during some of my darkest hours, I was searching various Central Ohio churches looking for a home, not just for me and my needs, but a home for my family. A acquaintaince at work asked me to try CA. I never needed to look any further. My prayers were answered in so many ways and continue to be answered today. Pastor Sam and the staff at CA gave me courage, hope, love and joy that I had been starving for. I am so happy to have found Pastor Sam and Paulette when I did. My heart is so much fuller and serenity is so much easier to obtain as a result of CA and Sam and the entire family/staff at CA. Thank you for your worship and arts focus and your passion for diversity and inclusiveness of the community. Paulette, much love to you from my family too. I wish I would have been to CA sooner, but I am so blessed for having been directed there when I was, that is certain.

In 2003 I was up rooted from my home church by the death of our pastor.
The Lord send me to Christian Assembly. There I discovered one of my long lost teachers from Jr. High was a deacon Mr. Wilson. The first week that I arrived at the church I met Pastor Sam's wife Paulette. She greeted me with such warmth and kindness that I knew God had sent me to a place of healing. When I met Pastor Sam I feel in love with his spirit and the love he had for God's people. I had told Deacon Wilson one day that I wanted to be in the choir for Easter Sunday but I was concerned because I was not a member yet. He asked me if I was a member of the body of Christ and I said yes. I showed up a rehersals that next week and Paulette and the others greeted me with a love that I have yet to experience. Thank you Paulette and Pastor Sam for loving me when you did not even know the pain I was in how devestated I had been. Thank you for displaying the love of Christ to me and countless others. You are truly the example that Christ intends for us all to be. I will forever be grateful. I love you and will miss pastor Sam but I will always remember the love.
I remember when Tommy Tenney came there and looked out over the body and said, "this is what I imagine heaven will looks like", and I know he was right. Heaven looks like LOVE heaven looks like you Paulette and Pastor Sam.
Thanks for sharing your husband with so many. Forever be blessed Paulette. All my love

Pastor Sams has provided me with life changing direction with his teaching and leadership. I came to Christian Assembly looking for a real connection with Christ, not only for myself but for my family. Though Pastor Sam’s leadership at Christian assembly we received that and a family in the bargain. To be at and a part of Christian Assembly is a blessing that my family have enjpyed, a blessing left by Pastor Sam. We are still growing under that blessing now with Pastor Torry at the helm.

I do not have the exact expression of words to describe what Pastor Sam meant to me. What I do know is that my life changed when God brought me in to the lives of the Farina family. Perhaps I should say when God brought them into my life.Pastor Sam ALWAYS had a way of making me feel and know that I matter, and he was truly interested in my life. I learned important life lessons as I literally sat and stood at his feet. His love for me and his belief in me renewed my vision for my life, my work, and my ministry.. I thank God for Pastor Sam and Paulette. Our times together will forever be imprinted upon my heart and mind. Thank you Pastor Sam and Paulette for the privilege to serve you, to know you and to learn from you. I love you. Your Precious Light Shines On.....
O' precious light, Father God's chosen delight, a warrior after God's own heart.
Faithful Ambassador, Royal Pastor, Jesus Soldier, shining light unto the dark.
Our spritual compass, sweet dearly beloved, a loving Papa in God's great house.
Completed your assignment faithfully, as heavens trump released its shout.
Promoted in glory, now beholding the face of our King as the heavenly host now sing.
Marching higher in the Father's good pleasure, richly clothed in righteousness eternally.
In the still of our silence, between each tear we proclaim, your light shines on victoriously.
The living water shall give us strength, yes, the great Emmanuel-God with us.
As we walk hand in hand with you in Jesus, inside the fortress of His perfect love.
There are no farewells, no hopeless goodbyes, good night, for we shall certainly met again.
Inside the promise of God's awesome glory as one in Christ we shall transend.
O' Faithful Sam, through the light of Christ you planted His good seed.
That we shall joyfully water in your sweet memory, until your face again we see.
Our Fathers great mysteries, someday we shall know, until then, we will trust and believe.
Rejoicing in all His perfect ways in reverence, on our bended knees.
Dearly beloved Papa, you shall be missed, yet in faith you preached us strong.
Your special love is forever cherished in our hearts as Your Precious Light Shine On.......

Pastor Sam was truely an inspiration to all those that knew him. His example of dedication to God, to his family, and to the body of Christ was truely remarkable. In every generation there stands a man of God that rises above the rest.Pastor Sam was that man. We will miss him for a moment. Soon the day will dawn, and we will all be together forever. Until then let us continue to fight the good fight of faith. That is how Pastor Sam would have wanted it to be. Good night my friend. We will see you in the morning.

God saw you were getting tired & a cure was not meant to be,
so he put his arms around you & whispered, "come with me"
With tearful eyes, we watched you as you passed away.
Although we did love you deeply, we could not make you stay.
Your golden heart stopped beating, hard working hands at rest.
God broke our hearts to prove to us, he only takes the best.

I came to Christian Assembly about 27 years ago and met a man that has consistantly lived what he has been teaching. That's impressive! There just aren't enough words to describe the impact Pastor Sam and Paulette have had on my life. Even if there were enough words there's not enough time to use them all. Pastor Sam taught me to hold my head up and never walk in shame. I will never forget a prase from a sermon when I was new to the church. "Learn to soar like an eagle instead of hanging around scratching with the chickens".
I will be forever greatful for the time, love and care Pastor Sam and Paulette invested in teaching me to be a true child of the King. I will cherish the memories of having a Pastor, a big brother, a daddy and a friend all wrapped up in one. I will remain faithful in carrying his legacy.

As everyone stated at the memorial service, he did make a huge mark in our hearts and lives which will continue on as we reflect Christ in our daily lives to others. Hi Paulette,
Thank you for your ministry and your obedience to the Word. Even though my family and I have attended CA for the past 14 years, I have only had the pleasure of talking with Pastor Sam briefly on a few occasions. Frequent conversations were not necessary, I was simply drawn to the teachings and lifestyle taught by you and Pastor Sam. As result of CA’s influence in Donald (my husband of 32 years) and my life, we have raised two children into beautiful young women of God. The phrase that keeps coming to mind is, “It’s Sunday morning.” Thank you Lord for Pastor Sam’s life. The Irvins remain excited about serving the Lord through CA in the upcoming years.
See in church.

Paulette and Family - This seems like a dream - like we will all wake up soon and it not be real. However, it is and Pastor Sam will so be missed. He has counselled both of us like a father, guiding us in love and compassion. Now, it is up to us to walk out what we have been taught. Paulette, we love Pastor Sam deeply, as we do you. Our love and prayers are with you and your family. Steve and MAry Jo Thomas

Pastor Sam loved the song, "Show me your face" and "Dance with me". He loved telling the story of how I came to be invited to Exaltation, and he loved to laugh. He really enjoyed watching the people worship the Lord and he was so proud of his 'kids' no matter how young or old they were. Although we will miss seeing his face for now, his generous and loving spirit stays with us all in our hearts and memories. Just a little while longer and we will all be together again. Thank you Lord for Pastor Sam, and thank you for Jesus who makes our reunion a certainty!

May you know peace in this time of sorrow. While 5 years is not a great amount of time, the impact that Pastor had on me and my children will last a lifetime.

Pastor Sam was more then my pastor....he was my big brother, my papa, my friend...My family will forever carry his legacy in our lives and how we live it. How blessed I am to know that Pastor Sam laid hands on each of my children and blessed them, and with his arms held me in sunshine or darkness and with tenderness kept my marriage as part of himself. The hole left in my heart will only be healed by knowing that one day Pastor Sam, I'm going to get say "HI" to you. I remain affectionately, "your Kath-a-leen"

As I shared with both his brothers at the Homegoing Celebration last night, "Yes, I loved Pastor Sam. Pastor Sam was gracious and always welcoming;but more importantly, I KNOW deep in my heart, he loved me. I was a ewe that God placed in His (God's) pasture and he (Pastor Sam) took care of His sheep."

Dear Paulette, Greg, Jeff and family, It is hard to put into words how much Pastor Sam and all of you have enriched our lives. We wanted to make the Memorial but Jeff was so sick. There are so many wonderful memories but the one thing I will always remember Pastor Sam for was his belief in giving away something every day. Jeff admired his tie one day and he gave it to him (He still has it). I think that exemplifies the person that he was in that he valued people more than things and didn't hold onto early treasures. We love you all and you are continually in our prayers.

Dearest Paulette, Jeff/Kris/girls and Gregg,
Many many many hugs and prayers to you all as you walk through this difficult and painful time...While memories are too many to mention (bible studies in the old church basement, conversations on your back porch and fun parties) one small memory that popped in my mind as I thought of you all and made me smile/laugh was how Sam loved to reach with his fork to a plate and say, "MMMM...that looks good...can I have a taste???" who could say "no"??..besides, he had already had a bite on his fork!!! LOL. It is the little things...isn't it??? He did enjoy life but most importantly enjoyed his Savior!!!
My love to you all. Jackie

You, Christ, are the King of glory,
the eternal Son of the Father.
When you took our flesh to set us free
you humbly chose the Virgin's womb.
You overcame the sting of death
and opened the kingdom of heaven to all believers.
You are seated at God's right hand in glory.
We believe that you will come and be our judge.
Come then, Lord, and help your people,
bought with the price of your own blood,
and bring us with your saints
to glory everlasting.

We've only met Pastor Sam twice, yet in that time we were overwhelmed at his kindness, sincerity, and balanced and true doctrine of Christianity. It was beautifully evdient that his church loved and respected him, and in spite of this obvious display he never fell into the trap to build an earthly church empire - He ALWAYS preferred others above himself, and
ALWAYS kept the goal of Christ foremost in all he did. It seemed his most happy moments were seeing others succeed in their Christian walk. He was one of the best cheerleaders for other people and other ministries. I know that as he came home to heaven that he was greeted with the words "Well done, good and faithful servant" Pastor Sam was an inspiration to us all, and a strong example of what Christian leadership should look like. We were truly privileged to have known him. (Robert and Tracy H Sugg - The Potter's House Fine Arts ministry)

Dear Paulette &: Family:
My deepest sympathies and loving thoughts are sent to you this day in remembrance of my dear friend, Sam Farina, who was part of my life for nearly 30 years. What a joy he was. He always took time to say "hello" and demonstrate interest in what I was doing. He was so gracious even at the last Exaltation when he was not feeling well - still smiling, loving and giving of himself. What a blessing he was. May God surround you with His loving care even as Sam did. I love you and will keep you and your family in my prayers.

Paulette, there is nothing we can say that will ease the pain of your loss. Even though I'm in another town now, he will always be my Pastor in my heart. Both of you have meant so much to me. God Bless all of you, your family and Christian Assembly family, which of course are the same. I love you all and my prayers are with you, though not in person certainly in spirit.

Dear Sister Paulette & family:
I wonder if you will ever know just how much Pastor Sam was loved in this community. He was like the father and friend upon which we could all depend. My last memory of him was at Exhaltation this year. We were both coming in for one of the evening services and I reached over and gave him a hug. He was most gracious, since I knew that he did not know me by name; but, still he returned the love. Thank you for having shared him with us these many years. I will miss him. I pray the Holy Spirit's comfort as you grieve his passing and celebrate his life.

My thoughts and prayers are with you Paulette,Jeff and Gregg.
I was truly shocked when I got the news he was gone. But I know he is happy where he is. He will have an awesome Christmas. He will be praising God like he has been teaching us to do for years now.
Christian Assembly has truly been blessed with Sam as a Pastor. I can't begin to remember all the times he ministered to me in various ways. He was always the one to encourage everyone, no matter what they were going through and that has blessed many people, including myself. The Word he had every Sunday was awesome. He loved the people of his church and the people loved him. People will miss him, but we do know we will see him when resurrection comes.

We are still shocked by the passing of Pastor Sam. He was such a strong, passionate man who loved the Lord with all of his heart. There has never been a kinder, gentler spirit. He always made you feel loved and accepted. We were very blessed to have known him and to have him as a pastor. He has left a beautiful legacy in our church.
There is comfort in knowing that he is with his Lord and Father. Heaven is a brighter place with him there.
Paulette, Jeff, Greg and the CA Staff - may the Lord comfort you and give you peace during the quiet times.

Paulette, I can hardly bring myself to the realization that Pastor Sam is no longer with us on this earth. Through my 23 years at CA, I am so glad that I purchased many tapes of his sermons and keep a scrapbook of my Christian Assembly memories. Your ministry together at CA and home life was/is an excellent example for us to follow. May your many memories of "Sam" overflow you with comfort, laughter, joy and peace. You two started the course together and God will help you finish according to His good will and pleasure. I join with others as we extend our open hands and hearts to you and your family at this time and in the days to come.
I love you.
