To the entire Long family:
I know to be absent from the body is to be present with The Lord, and that blessing helps to give me peace about losing our beloved Foot. I share the sentiments of those who grew up with him in Blair Heights. I remember when he and Dr Polly first started going together. I remember when Karl was born. Foot's strange and wonderful sense of humor will live on with us forever and all of us who have been graced to know him have truely been blessed.

Pauline,
My deepest condolences to you and your family. I loved Foot like a brother. As you know, he spent a lot of time at our house playing cards, etc. Although I will miss him, I realize he is out of his pain and in the Lord's embrace.

Pauline,
I was so very saddened and surprised to hear of Sherman's passing. He would always stop by my office to visit while in the area. I will never forgot the many laughs we had while he was a student at the Katz School. He will truly be missed. My prayer is that God will continue to give you strength and peace.

My deepest sorrow to my friend Pauline and her family in the passing of her husband, Sherman. The few times that I sat with Sherman, he impressed me as a man of wit, of intellect, and a man of honor.

I remember Sherman "Foot" Long so well. He was such an intelligent person and his intellect was evident at all times while conversing with him or if you were in any proximity of his conversation with others. I recall him as very confident but not brash and one who enjoyed laughter. Such a great personality !!!
Although I last saw Sherman 20 years ago in 1987 at our 20th year high school reunion ('67), his dynamic personality feels like yesterday that I also vividly recall 40 years ago when we graduated from high school.
May God truly bless you Pauline and the Long Family including all members of both your Immediate and Extended Families.

Dear Pauline and Family,
What a joy it was to know Sherman! He's was always so supportive of your activities with the Pitt alumni, and was quick with a smile and a hug when he came to our events. The love the two of you shared was clear to everyone who saw you together. I was blessed to have known him.

Pauline,
We were saddened to learn of Sherman's health challenges. You had just been to California for your niece's graduation, so it was hard to believe that things could have changed so dramatically.
We will always remember the time we spent with you and Sherman on the cruisetour to Alaska. We had a wonderful time getting to know each other and spending time together. We have maintained contact over the years through emails.
We feel the loss of Sherman deeply. We send our love and support to the family. We have many special memories and Sherman will always have a place in our hearts.

To Sherman's family - my deepest condolances. I worked with Sherman at IBM/Nationwide. Sherman was an excellent worker, but more importantly Sherman was always a great guy - the world is a sadder place without his smile, positive attitude and that little chuckle he always had... Thanks for sharing him with us. Take Care.

Pauline, when I received your call, I cannot express the sadness I felt. Sherman was a very special person and friend. May the warmth of God's love embrace you and the love of those around you bring you and your family comfort and peace. Blessed are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted. Matthew 5:4

My heart felt sympathy to the Long family for the loss of Foot, a truely talented and engaging young man. I'll never forget my "calculus" conversation with Sherman. I learned more math after a half hour discussion with Foot than I did taking a full semester college course. I'll think of him everytime I read about optimizing economic functions.

I would like to first offer my sincere condolences to Pauline and the Long family. "Foot" Long was a "special" person who was everyone's favorite. In school and in the community as well "Sugarfoot" was an intelligent, kind-hearted and well-liked person. My fondest memories take me back to the good times we all had growing up in the Projects at Blair Heights and as classmates in the amazing graduating Class of 1967 at Clairton High School. To "Foot's" mom, Miss Ruth, and the entire Long family, I ask God's blessings to comfort you and to keep you strong during your time of sorrow.

To the family of Sherman D. Long... I bow my head in sorrow to the news of the passing of Sherman. My dear, dear friend and brother. I first met Sherman when I worked with him at Nationwide Insurance Company in Columbus, Ohio. What a wonderful, caring, intelligent person! Sherman really loved Pauline and his family. I remember the stories he used to tell me about his grandchildren and how crazy he was about them. Sherman's intellegece and professionalism was second to none. My condolences to Pauline and the family. Sherman was a SPECIAL person who was loved by everyone. May GOD comfort and keep you during your time of loss.
Please remember there is no pain GOD cannot not heal and there is no tears of sadness that he cannot turn to joy.
Respectfully submitted,
