What a kind and loving man. My wife and I lived across the street from him, What a great neighbor and a wonderful man of god. God selection of good souls to take home with him was done to a perfection. His presence will be missed but his life of wonderful example will live on for years to come

Monsignor Bender gave me my first communion at St. Cecilia many years ago and then married my husband and I in 2006 at St. Joan of Arc. It was a privilege to have had him there at such life changing and important events. Rest in peace Father, you've served so many of us in your years here on earth and touched so many lives. Enjoy your heavenly reward.

I had the pleasure of meeting and working with Father...then Msgr., at St. Joan of Arc. He was truly a servant of the Lord...so kind, so humble, always willing to listen, and such a dry sense of humor. He was a joy and a blessing to know.

God of hope,
we come to you in shock and grief and confusion of heart.
Help us to find peace in the knowledge
of your loving mercy to all your children,
and give us light to guide us out of our darkness
into the assurance of your love,
in Jesus Christ our Lord.
Amen.

Monsignor Bender became a friend when he
moved to the Villas. We had known each other for almost 40 years, but did not
have a close friendship until after he
retired. He was a very faithful, dedicated Priest who served with humility and compassion. He enjoyed
talking with me about Henri Nouwen's
life and writing. Rev. Ron Hooker,
President of the Columbus Metropolitan
Area Church Council.
