My favorite memory of Tom was from a birthday party - my birthday fell during the Ohio State Fair. Tom and Steve dropped by on their way back from the fair. Tom hadn't known he was coming to a birthday party, but he presented me with a mug that I know he had bought for himself. It is one of my favorite mugs to this day - a heavy ceramic beer stein type mug and when I use it, I always see Tom as he was that day in the early '70s. I'll have a drink in it on Saturday, and toast his memory.
