Timothy Watabe Obituary
Timothy "Tim" Masanobu Watabe, age 49, of Dublin, passed away on October 21, 2017 in Hocking Hills, Ohio in a rappelling accident. He is survived by his wife, Joleene Tower Watabe; children, Jacob, Kristen, Ian, and Nalani Watabe; parents, Masahisa and Faith Watabe; siblings, Wendy (David) Peterson, Rebecca (Peter) Lundberg, Emi (Jared) England, Rachael (Christian) Colman, Nathan (Michelle) Watabe, and Jayson (Courtney) Watabe; and many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins. Tim graduated from James Madison High School, San Diego, CA (1986); BS from Brigham Young University (1993); and MBA from Brigham Young University (1997). He worked as an executive at Scotts Miracle-Gro. At the time of his death, he was serving as the bishop of the Dublin First Ward of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served for many years as a leader in the Boy Scouts of America. Funeral services will be held Saturday, October 28, 2017 at 2:00 pm at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints at 7135 Coffman Rd, Dublin, OH 43017. The viewing will be Friday, October 27, 2017 at the same location from 4-7 pm. Memorial services will also be held in Utah in mid-November as well as in San Diego, California in late December. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the humanitarian fund of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints or the GoFundMe account to help with Tim's children's mission and college funds. Tim was a colleague of mine while I was at Scotts. We bonded over the fact that we both were native Southern Californians, and worked together on several projects, including developing a training program for new hires.
I always was impressed by Tim's intelligence, kindness, and integrity. He was devoted to his church, his family, and to the Scouts. Tim was one of the good ones.
I'm shocked and saddened by the news of Tim's death, and offer my deepest sympathies to his family and friends in this difficult time.

I had the honor of working with Tim at Scotts several years ago. Despite what must have been a hectic workload, he was never too busy to stop and say hello. He was one of the friendliest, most competent people I've ever had the pleasure of working with. He will be missed.
