Walter Schumer Obituary

SCHUMER Walter Schumer, 83 of Powell, formerly of Tamarac, FL and Wantagh, NY, passed away at the Kobacker House on October 9, 2011. Born on August 19, 1928 to the late Charles and Ann (Brenner) Schumer in Brooklyn, NY, he cherished and was devoted to his family and friends. He was a kind, fun-loving, caring man. As a proud Eagle Scout, he loved the outdoors, had many interests including: photography, building and flying airplanes, playing and watching sports. Walter graduated from Murray Hill Vocational School, NY and was a lithographer. He worked over 25 years for Bridge Litho and was a member of Amalgamated Lithographers of America. Survived by his wife of 55 years, Lynn Schumer; daughter and son-in-law, Cynthia and Andrew Ottavio; son and daughter-in-law, Jeff and Whitney Schumer; grandchildren, Natalie and Alexander Ottavio, Jennifer and Jake Schumer; half-siblings, Inez Lilien and Barry Stein. Preceded in death by step-mother Estelle Schumer; step father Joe Stein and siblings Estelle Klein and Abe Schumer. Graveside service 1 p.m. on Sunday, October 16 at FOREST LAWN MEMORIAL GARDENS, 5600 E. Broad St., Columbus. Shiva will be observed at the Ottavio home immediately following the funeral. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, 3380 Tremont Rd., Columbus 43221 or the American Stroke Assoc., 5455 N. High St., Columbus 43214.
