William Conrad Obituary

CONRAD William C. Conrad III, M.D., age 61, of New Albany, died December 1, 2006 at Mount Carmel East Hospital. Born in Ponca City, OK on February 15, 1945 to the late William C. Conrad Jr. and Florence (Kerr) Conrad. He was a 1963 graduate of DeVilbiss High School in Toledo, OH. He graduated in 1971 from the Ohio State University Medical School, founded Emergency Services, Inc. and was instrumental in the development of Emergency Medicine as a specialty. In 1978, Dr. Conrad became board certified in Radiology and joined Radiology Inc., where he practiced until 2005. Among his certifications were Diagnostic Radiology, Nuclear Medicine, Vascular and Interventional Radiology, Neuroradiology, and Nuclear Cardiology. He made many friends during his 33 years of service at Mount Carmel East and was appreciative of their support. Following a spinal fracture and subsequent surgery in July, 2005, Dr. Conrad spent his convalescence completing dozens of Continuing Medical Education courses. Throughout multiple hospitalizations for numerous medical complications, Dr. Conrad remained optimistic about his recovery and determined to resume his work as a radiologist. He continued to expand his knowledge and appreciation of literature, art and music until his death. Bill is survived by his beloved son, Alex Edward Conrad of New York, NY; his sister, Beth Conrad Barton of Auburn, NE; and his dear friend, Vicki Conrad Pack of Pickerington, OH. Family members will receive friends 3-5 p.m. on Sunday, December 3, 2006 at the DWAYNE R. SPENCE FUNERAL HOME, 550 Hill Rd. North (St. Rt. #256) Pickerington, OH. A memorial service will be held at Mount Carmel East at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family prefers that memorial contributions be made to the Arthritis Foundation, 3740 Ridge Mill Dr., Hilliard, OH 43026 in his memory. I had the distinct pleasure of knowing Dr. Conrad. He was a mentor, father-figure and great friend. His insatiable spirit for learning and reading and researching were unmatched. In losing him, we lose a truly unique and wonderful person who touched many lives. I will always cherish the visits I had with him and our great friendship. Our deepest sympathies go to Alex, Beth, and Vicky. I will miss you my dear friend. May your Heaven be filled with priceless works of art, endless museums, every book ever written, laughter, bologna sandwiches, and diet pepsi. I love you, buddy.-Ben.

My condolences to the family of Bill. I was with Radiology, Inc for almost 20 years, and left Ohio in 2004. I only recently heard of Bill's death, and feel a great sadness. It sounds like he battled for life and health until the end. Again, my sincerest condolences.

Bill was always helpful whenever I needed his professional advice during the 18 years I knew him, and for this I shall always be grateful. His sense of humor is the trait I'll most remember.

Please accept my deepest sympathy.

So sad to hear Bill has passed away, being he was five days older than I. He was a really nice person, who I remember growing up at McKinley and DeVilbiss. Constance Hood Culbertson

Bill was a good man and we will all miss him but he is only gone in body. He will always be with us in spirit and memory. May we find peace in this time of sorrow.

Please accept our condolence. I will
miss those days when Bill shared the
same reading room with me at East.
Bill is my teacher, my student, my
confidant, and my inspiration. I have never met a person who faced
so many handicaps and obstacles in
life and yet remained optimistic to
the last minute. Bill is a scholar,
a man of erudition not only in
Medicine but also in Arts, History
and Literature. I will treasure those days when we were engaged in conversations as mundane as real estate, and as emotional as history of China. So long my friend !!

My thoughts are with you. One of the things I found remarkable about Bill was his attitude. Despite his medical difficulties, he always seemed in good spirits, striving to get back to work. I admired his commitment to medicine, intelligence and drive.
