William Klee Obituary

Klee William G. Klee, age 93, passed away Saturday, September 10, 2016. He was born in Rochester, NY on September 1, 1923 to the late Arthur and Louise Klee. H graduated from the University of Notre Dame, and pursued some graduate studies. After serving in Okinawa in the U.S. Army in WWII, William had discerned a call to study for the priesthood, and entered the novitiate of the Holy Cross Fathers, but this was not to be God's Will for him. He worked in radio and TV production for some years, and always had a passion for writing, publishing short stories, and nearly completing a well-researched novel on the fate of the "Shenandoah" airship, the U.S. Navy craft that crashed in 1925. William transitioned to a career with the Federal Government, retiring from the IRS in 1980. He was very active in apostolic works, primarily in the Pro-life movement, and was a daily communicant for much of his life. He was a Third Order Franciscan for nearly (70) years of his life, authentically striving to live a simple, austere life. William is preceded in death by his wife of (44) years, Dorothy, his brother Fr. Robert Klee and sister Joan. He is survived by his four children, Fr. Joseph Klee, Mary, John Klee and Anne (John) Kasper; grandchildren, Cathy, Nicole and Matthew. The wake will be from 4-8 p.m. Thursday, September 15, 2016 at JOHN QUINT TREBONI FUNERAL HOME, 1177 West Fifth Avenue, Columbus, OH. 43212, with Rosary and Vigil Service at 7:15 p.m. The Funeral Mass will be on Friday, September 16, 2016 at 10 a.m., at St. Patrick Church, 280 N. Grant Ave.,Columbus, OH 43215. Family and Friends Are Asked To Gather At Church For His Funeral Mass. Interment to follow at Resurrection Cemetery, Lewis Center, OH. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Mater Dei Academty, 3695 Elm Street, Columbus, OH 43213. Condolences may be sent via www.johnquint.com

I was very sorry to see this news, and regret being out of touch with all of you. I miss Mary and hope we can connect soon. I think of you often, and have always thought of you as my 'second family'. Your parents were generous and welcoming and I loved them both.
Thinking of you.

Dear Dad Klee, I was honored that you wanted me to call you "Dad," even though I'm not married to your son, John, yet. I was so honored also for the times you came over to my place for dinner with your family or alone. I'm so glad you and I got to know each other these past 7 years. You were a remarkable man: very religious and holy, loving to your family and friends, witty, very intelligent up to the very end, great conversationalist and writer, compassionate especially to the unborn (You even landed in jail once for marching against abortion.) you always loved and missed Mrs. Klee, raised a great God-loving family, especially your son, John. Thank you for all of this and more. You were a wonderful example of what a true man should be. I miss you and always will, as I know you love me and I'll always love you. But I am so happy for you that any earthly suffering you had is over now. Rest in God's peace, faithful one! Please pray for John and me. I know you can help us even more now, since you are even closer to God than you were on earth. My love and prayers, Naomi

As facilitator of the Ohio Writer's Guild meetings, I remember Bill sharing his short stories. Some were humorous. Others were historical. He seemed to enjoy writing them. Sorry to hear "Shenandoah" was not published.
May he rest in Peace.

It was with great sadness that I learned of Bill Klee's death, to know him was to love him. He loved babies born and unborn and never gave up the fight to end abortion. He was a holy man and very brilliant with a great sense of wit. He was so proud of his grand children. May he dance with the angels.
