Bob Forbus Obituary

Bob Forbus never met a stranger, or at least anyone who remained one for long. Robert "Bob" Forbus, a revered figure in the insurance industry and devoted community leader, passed away peacefully April 11 surrounded by family. He leaves behind a legacy of professionalism, integrity, and dedicated service.

Bob was initially Assistant Manager at a garment factory, but his career took a turn when retired Agency Manager Bobby Gaines, alongside retired Agency Vice President Jim Hanks, recruited him to join State Farm. Bob commenced his illustrious career there on January 1, 1966, marking the beginning of what would be a remarkable journey spanning more than 55 years.

Throughout his career, Bob distinguished himself as a pillar of excellence within State Farm. He was a perennial member of the Ambassador Club, earning this distinction 24 times. His relentless pursuit of excellence also earned him placements in the Golden Triangle, Honor Club, and a multitude of regional awards. He was a consistent Millionaire Qualifier, Bronze Tablet Agent, Star Level Agent, and Select Agent. His professional achievements reflected his deep commitment to providing outstanding service to his clients and contributed significantly to the shaping of industry standards.

Additionally, Bob was a proud member of the President's Club, a testament to his leadership and the high regard with which he was held by his peers and colleagues. His leadership traces back to being Head Cheerleader, treasurer of Student Council, and member of Sigma Chi fraternity at Mississippi State University - he continued to bleed maroon for many decades.

Bob's compassion extended beyond his professional endeavors. He served as President of his local Rotary Club, where he championed numerous community service projects. He also served as President of the Amory Chamber of Commerce. His dedication to service was also evident in his longtime commitment to the Army National Guard, from which he retired after 23 years of faithful service.

His favorite place was the serenity of 40 acres in the country, where he spent most of his life, alongside his wife of 58 years, Dot. Many of his favorite memories revolve around this special place and the gatherings with family and lifelong friends.

Bob's unwavering dedication, both in his career and his personal life, left an indelible mark on all who knew him. His generosity, kindness, and wit were pillars of his character. His generosity was unparalleled - he would "move like smoke" to lend an anonymous helping hand. His remarkable journey through life leaves a legacy of unwavering commitment to improving the lives of others.

He is survived by a loving family including his children Scott, Robyn Lehman (Gregg), his daughter-in-law Stacy; his brothers Jack (Lynda), Billy, and sister Bettye (Bill); his grandchildren Rob Forbus (Caitlin), Wesley Boock (Caroline), Addie Forbus (Trey), Matt Lehman (Amber), Grant Lehman (Beth) and great-grandchildren Theo Lehman, Aury Lehman, Greta Lehman, Wells Boock, and Dottie Forbus.

Visitation will be Sunday, April 14, from 1 to 3 p.m. at First Baptist Church of Amory; service will follow at 3 p.m.

Bob's life will be celebrated in a ceremony reflecting his significant contributions to his community and the many lives he touched. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the First Baptist Church or St. Jude, a cause close to Bob's heart.
