Brad Johnson Obituary

Robert Brad Johnson, age 54, of Columbus, GA took his final rest on Wednesday, April 3rd, 2024. He left behind his family, as well as a lifetime collection of music, audio equipment, guitars, and a beautiful Mercury Cougar.

He is survived by his sons Ian (Cora) Johnson and Hayden Johnson, his mother Shirley (Bill) Culpepper, siblings Clay (Tammy) Johnson and Kris (Michael) Parsons, and dogs Alfie and Winslow. He is preceded in death by his father David Johnson.

Brad was born January 27, 1970. He grew up in Eupora, MS and graduated from Eupora High School. He lived in Tupelo, MS and raised his sons before moving to Columbus, GA. He spent most of his career working in purchasing. He also served in the Mississippi National Guard Reserve.

Brad was passionate about his interests and pursued them with enthusiasm, sharing the joy of his hobbies freely. All things from the 1960's excited him, and he was a bottomless resource for questions on pop culture, aviation, and automobiles from the era. He collected music until he had enough vinyl records to start a record store and had a legendary vintage stereo. He played a spot-on John Lennon in a Beatles cover band. Restoring his vintage Cougar was another of his joys. On weekends, he could be found at aviation festivals, flea markets picking for records, or enjoying a ride with the top down on his Cougar. He loved spending time with his family, enjoying cookouts, conversations, and clever quips. He loved his mother and siblings and was loved by them in return. He loved his sons, caring deeply for them, and passed on his passions to them as well.

We will miss his love and generosity.

I got to know Brad through visits to his record store. He was one of the most genuine, authentic guys I knew. He surely loved his hobbies and family, especially his sons, sharing his thoughts freely with anyone that would listen. I hate that I won't be able to share another conversation with him in this life. A loss for this world indeed.

So sorry to learn about Brad. I was fortunate to perform with Brad and some other youngsters playing `60s music in the early `90s. Brad was a fun guy to be around and the life of the party. His knowledge and love for all things vintage will be remembered by all who knew him. I have often thought of those special times over the years. My thoughts and prayers are with his family and his memory.

Brad was one of my best friends and was also one of the kindest and most generous people I´ve ever met. So many memories and too many stories to post here but I was honored to have him as my friend. I will forever miss him and will continue praying for family.

I have so many fond memories of playing in Rubber Soul as his (John Lennon´s) sidekick (George Harrison). He was one of the funniest and most generous people I´ve ever known. I will miss our conversations about guitars, vinyl records, tube amps, and life in general.

We loved Brad like a little brother. He was so kind, genuine, courteous, loving, forgiving , interesting ...so many good qualities. He and Steve shared common interests in vintage cars and watches, music and guitars, history and politics. He was also our little brother in Christ. We are so saddened by this news and will miss him dearly. He will forever hold a special place in our hearts.

I am deeply saddened to hear about Brad. The world has lost a very kindhearted, genuine person. He was a great friend to me for many years going back to his year of school at Houston. As luck would have it we reconnected while working at a screenprinting shop in Starkville in the very early 90s, and he remained one of my truest friends. I knew I could ask anything of him and without a doubt he would be there to help. He was ever dependable and become quite adept at sending frowned upon refreshments to me whenever I was deplyed overseas, helping me keep my sanity. Recently I have been recalling the "misadventures" we got into in our much younger days or the countless conversations we had over everything from the military, music, history, politics to abolute hysterical nonsese. Well hilarious if you shared the kind of sense of humor that we did. I will deeply miss my friend and those conversations. Prayers and my deepest condolences for his boys, mother and family.

Brad was a unique man. He was genuine, loving, kind, tender-hearted, friendly, caring more about other´s feelings than his own. He was like a little brother to Steve and me. He joked about being jealous that we were born in the 50´s. He and Steve shared common interests in vintage cars and wrist watches, music and guitars, politics and history. More importantly, we find comfort in knowing he was our little brother in Christ. Brad was a born-again believer in the Lord Jesus Christ, and we will see him again someday. Brad will always hold a special place in our hearts. May we all strive to be kind to honor his memory!

Brad will be greatly missed by our family. He was always so kind to us. We loved sharing stories about our boys at family get togethers. And enjoyed getting to see him perform with Rubber Soul in Memphis. He was very talented and a very proud and loving father to his two sons. My thoughts and prayers are with his family and his boys.

He was the entire reason why I love the Beatles. He was always good to me. Took me to car shows and tried teaching me guitar. I´m so sad for the boys. You will be missed.
