Curtis Lee Doss

1938 - 2026

Mr. Curtis Lee Doss, 87, died Thursday, February 19, 2026 at North MS Medical Center, Tupelo, MS. He was born September 3, 1938. He married to his best friend and love of his life, Verna Sue Autrey in 1960 and they made their home in Okolona where they raised three daughters (the Doss girls). Curtis retired from many years of upholstery employed by Futorian Furniture Manufacturing. He enjoyed hunting, but fishing was his passion, he also loved their little dog, Rudy dearly. Curtis and Sue are longtime members of Carnation Baptist Church where he served as a Deacon. Curt always taught his girls and lived by, "treat others as you would want to be treated." He thought each of his girls hung the moon and loved all his grands unconditionally. He was a man of God and Sue expressed that "This is not goodbye - I will see you again." Curtis was the last survivor of ten children born to the marital union of the late Jessie Richard Doss and Mabel Elvira Obarr Doss Huffman. His siblings were Henry Doss, Sue Smith, Margaret Presley, infant sister, Annie Ruth Doss, Charlie Doss, J.D. Doss, Frank Doss, and Johnny Doss. A celebration service of Curtis' life and home-going will be at 1 PM, Sunday, February 22, 2026 at Carnation Baptist Church, Okolona with Bro. Jody Rock officiating. A graveside service will follow at East Chickasaw Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be from 5 PM - 7 PM, Saturday, February 21st and Sunday from 11 AM to service time, all at the church. Survivors include his loving wife of almost 66 years, Verna Sue Doss of Okolona; daughters, Lisha Kwasinski of Pontotoc, Tina Sturgeon (Tom) of Scottsboro, AL, and Amy Chaney (Terry) of Nettleton; 5 grandchildren, Nichole Johnson, Tyler Sloan (Summer), Colby Chaney (Ashley), Justin Chaney, and Blayne Sturgeon; 9 great grandchildren, Chloe King, Sonny King, Jolee Anna King, Ridgeland Chaney, M.J. Chaney, Brody Chaney, Grayson Chaney, Luke Hendrix, and Andi Washington; a host of nieces, nephews and other dear relatives. Pallbearers will be Tyler Sloan, Colby Chaney, Wayne Moore, Robert Culpepper, Jimmy Bailey, and Kevin Doss. Holland Funeral Directors are honored to serve their friends.
