David Grisham Obituary

Lonnie "David" Grisham, retired Chief of Police of New Albany, MS, passed away peacefully at his home on Saturday, March 8, 2025, surrounded by his family. He was 72 years old. He was a member of First Baptist Church of New Albany.

David was born on August 8, 1952, to Edward Ewing Grisham and Geneva Simpson Grisham. He was a 1970 graduate of W.P. Daniel High School, where he was a member of the school's football team. After high school, David attended Northeast Mississippi Community College, where he pursued a degree in Law Enforcement while continuing to play football. He later completed his degree at the University of Mississippi (Ole Miss), where he was a proud member of the Sigma Nu fraternity, graduating in 1974.

In 1973, David married Charlotte Davis of Corinth, MS. He began his law enforcement career at the Union County Sheriff's Department, where he eventually became Chief Deputy. In 1981, David was elected Chief of Police for the City of New Albany, a position he held until his retirement in 2013.

David was an avid golfer, hunter, and fisherman, and he was a devoted Ole Miss fan. His greatest joy was spending time with his family, whether attending football games with his three daughters and their families or traveling with them to the beach.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Edward and Geneva Grisham; his in-laws, John P. and Doris Coggins Davis; his brother-in-law, Steven Alan Davis (and wife, Linda); his brother-in-law, Gary Wayne Davis; a nephew, Corey Davis; and a niece Heather Davis.

David is survived by his loving wife of 51 years, Charlotte; three daughters: Ginger Rhynes (Michael), Katy Anna Richardson (Josh), and Carly Boyd (Alan); seven grandchildren: Peyton Henry, Cason Henry, Presley Henry, Kellianne Richardson, Analyn Richardson, Mary Lonna Boyd, and Anders Boyd; and one brother, Ed Grisham (Linda), all of New Albany.

Services will be held on Tuesday, March 11, 2025, at First Baptist Church of New Albany. Visitation will begin at 1:00 PM until service time at 4:00 PM. Burial will follow at Vista Memorial Park. There will be no graveside service. Pallbearers will be Don Evans, Bill Daniel, Junior Stout, Randy Owen, Buddy Ayers, David "Elmo" Spencer, Dale Howell, John Conrad, David "Bruno" Garrison, Danny Jordan, Larry Roberts, and Benny Kirk. Honorary Pallbearers will be past and present members of Law Enforcement.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the First Baptist Church Building Fund, 200 East Bankhead Street, New Albany, MS 38652.

United Funeral Service is honored to be entrusted with theses services.
