DERRICK JENKINS

1964 - 2017

Derrick Bouvier Jenkins was born on October 16, 1964, and departed this life on June 25, 2017, at Pineview Nursing Home in Clinton, MD. He was the youngest son born to the late Roger and Recie Jenkins. Derrick was educated at Amory High School and went on to receive a Bachelor's of Science in Physical Education from Jackson State University, Jackson, MS. While attending Amory High School, Derrick was proud to be an Amory Panther for both the football and baseball teams. Derrick was also a member of the band. His love for the Amory Panthers continued on as an adult, so much that he would have family and friends post the score and updates from the games on Facebook and carried on as if he were sitting in the stands! At the early age of 9, Derrick was baptized in to the St. Paul Missionary Baptist Church family and participated in many activities.

Derrick was employed by the Fairfax County Public School System where he served as a Special Education teacher. Derrick's adult students were near and dear to his heart and he always spoke highly of and carried a smile when talking about school. Derrick also served as a Girl's Basketball coach for several Fairfax County Public Schools. If you knew Derrick then you knew he was great at all sports, but his heart was with basketball, football, and baseball. He was a diehard Washington Redskins and Los Angeles Laker fan.

A Homegoing Celebration of Life Service will be held at 12 noon, Saturday, July 8, 2017, at the Susie L. Darden Memorial Chapel with Pastor Gloria McKinney officiating. Burial will follow in the Masonic Cemetery.

Visitation will be today at the funeral home from 2 to 5:00 p.m. and family hour from 5 to 6:00 p.m.

Derrick was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, Curtis Jenkins; two sisters, Bessie Blair and Vickie Jenkins.

He leaves to cherish his memory his devoted and loving fiance, Susan Brown; one brother, Michael Jenkins; three sisters, Juliette (Melvin) Smith, Addie (William) Colburn, and Johnnie Goins; one aunt, Mary Nichols; and a host of other relatives and friends.
