Doris Clifton Obituary

The life and legacy of Doris J. Clifton...

Our beloved Doris Jones Clifton was affectionately known as Mom, Bigmama, "Da", Aunt Doris and Mrs. Doris. As a teacher and pillar of the community, she was loved by many. She was born on July 1, 1928, in Itawamba County to her father, Woodson Shumpert and her mother, Bedie Jones Clifton and stepfather Clinton "Papa Clint" Clifton, Sr., who all preceded her in death as well. She was a cherished member of Shiloh CME up until her passing.

Mom held multiple careers throughout her lifetime and ultimately retired as a teacher from Fulton Head Start. She loved children and some of her favorite hobbies were fishing, basketball, bingo and going to the casino. Most of all, she loved being with her family.

Mom was well known by many for never, ever meeting a stranger. Regardless of where she traveled, she made friends and she was definitely going to tell the stories about it. Mom was a pistol and got around better than most. She was a very strong-willed, independent woman and primarily lived alone until just before her passing.

She was also preceded in death by her son, Glen D. Clifton, Sr. (Sina); grandson, Willie Hardin II; granddaughter, Shaniece Clifton; her brother, Eddie Clifton, Clinton Clifton Sr. (Mary), Archie Shumpert, Nash Shumpert, Hasket "Ray" Shumpert and Kevin Shumpert; her sisters, Annie B. Brownlee, Sandra Cockrell, Rose Shumpert, Evoria Shumpert abd Camora Hardin.

Doris leaves to cherish her memories; daughters, Gwendolyn Greenlee of Mooreville, MS, Tonia Clifton of Olive Branch, MS, Tasha Clifton Brown of Horn Lake, MS, a bonus daughter, Pamela Ashby of Fulton, MS; a son, Quentin Clifton (April) of SHeffield, AL; her grandchildren, Tammara Adams, Terrance Greenlee (Raeshon), Tarase McGee, Trevor Greenlee, Glen Clifton, Jr. (Rease), Angela Clifton Stewart (Allen), Gerome Clifton ( Keyonia), Raymond Clifton II (Kyla), Ryan Rogers and Morgan Brown; great grandchildren, Kiara Adams, Caleb Adams, Destiny Greenlee, Danielle Greenlee, TJ Greenlee, Taylen Greenlee, Brianna Chitwood (David), Mekail Clifton, Gabvril Clifton, Georgia Rayne Clifton, Aminah MuHammad, Madison Stewart, London Stewart, Jamen Sommerio ( Kaylee), Devon Sills (Sheena), Giya Clifton, Gerome Clifton Jr., Garell CLifton, Kayden Clifton; great-great grandchildren, Jude, Lennon, Macartney, Jameel, Layla, Cairo, and Milani; sisters, Willie B. Ruff of Fulton, Debbie Mitchell (Ernest) of Diboll.

She also leaves a host of caring relatives and numerous dear and faithful friends.
