Fayette Williams Obituary

Dr. Fayette Creed Williams, Jr., retired orthodontist, died at his home on Saturday, August 18, 2018 at the age of 85.

Fayette was born June 4, 1933 in Corinth Mississippi to Dr. Fayette C. Williams, Sr. and Margaret Shumpert Williams.

Dr. Williams was a graduate of Corinth High School, the University of Tennessee, and the University of Tennessee College of Dentistry. He completed his residency in orthodontics at the University of Alabama. Dr. Williams practiced orthodontics in Tupelo for 48 years.

Dr. Williams had a distinguished history of leadership in the dental profession. He served as Editor and President of the Mississippi Dental Association, President of the Mississippi Society of Orthodontists, and President of the Southern Association of Orthodontists. He was the recipient of the Outstanding Alumnus Award of the University of Tennessee College of Dentistry.

As a caring and compassionate orthodontist, Fayette was much beloved by his many patients. He also was generous with his professional skills, providing dental care for many needy children both locally and in the Dominican Republic. He was the co-founder of the North Mississippi Cleft Palate Clinic.

An avid supporter of the scouting program, Fayette was a Scoutmaster of Boy Scout Troop 3 of Tupelo's First Presbyterian Church and Vice President of the Yocona Area Council. He was the recipient of the Scouting Silver Beaver Award.

Fayette was a lifelong Presbyterian and was an active member of First Presbyterian Church where he served as a deacon and an elder.

He is survived by his wife of 50 years Mary Elizabeth Phillips Williams; daughter Margaret Elizabeth "Meg" Braff and her husband Doug of Locust Valley, New York; son Dr. Fayette C. Williams, III and his wife Lisa of Fort Worth, Texas; brother Bailey Williams and his wife Gloria of Corinth; brothers-in-law, Robert Phillips and his wife Cheryl and Huey Phillips and his wife Linda. Six grandsons, who were the light of his life, Doug Braff, Jr., Andrew Braff, William Braff, Charles Braff, Fayette "Creed" Williams, IV, and Hunter Williams survive him.

Fayette was preceded in death by his parents and brother John B. Williams.

Visitation will be 5 until 7 p.m. Monday, August 20, 2018, at First Presbyterian Church, McFadden Hall.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, August 21, 2018 at First Presbyterian Church, Tupelo with Rev. Olin McBride and Rev. Ann Houston Kelly officiating. W. E. Pegues Funeral Directors is in charge of the arrangements.

Graveside services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday, August 21, 2018 at Henry Cemetery in Corinth, Mississippi.
