Guy Nabors Obituary

Guy Dennis Nabors of Amory, Mississippi, formerly of Montgomery, Alabama, beloved husband of Sarah Prude Leineweber, died peacefully at his home in Amory on November 16, 2024.

Dennis was born in Amory on February 11, 1949, to Guy Marvin and Gena Turner Nabors. He was educated in Amory schools through junior high and graduated from Parkview High School in Springfield, Missouri. A five-sport athlete in Amory, Dennis focused on football when his family moved to Springfield. He was a standout quarterback for the Parkview Vikings and was affectionately known as "QB10" to his multitude of friends. Dennis attended the University of Alabama and ultimately became a lifelong fan of the Crimson Tide.

Dennis earned his law degree at Samford University's School of Law and spent his entire career practicing in Montgomery. His experience was wide-ranging and included serving as City Attorney for Montgomery, as Chief of Staff in the second administration of Governor Guy Hunt, as shareholder of national firm Baker Donelson and of Counsel to the Montgomery office of Rushton Stakely. Dennis' career also included years of private practice with David Belser and Charlie Graddick.

Dennis, taught to fish at a very early age by his grandfather and great aunt, developed a lifelong love of deep sea fishing, particularly in the Gulf of Mexico. He loved bird hunting and told amusing stories of his Labrador Retrievers, many of whom were lovingly supplied by his friend and vet, Rusty Phillips. Long after his hunting days had been replaced by fishing.

A soft spoken man, Dennis was a kind and loyal friend. His army of friends grew proportionately from elementary school to retirement and he loved entertaining them with fine food and great wine. He was an expert grill chef and carried his skills with him when he moved from Montgomery to his first retirement home in Highlands, NC.

Dennis is survived by his wife, Sarah Prude Leineweber; his daughter, Caroline Spratling Nabors (Mauricio Sanchez); two sons, Guy Dennis Nabors Jr. (Emmaline) and Ross Spratling Nabors (Katie-Chloe); and his grandchildren, Lyle, Alice and George Nabors and Carolina Sanchez; and his sister, Jan Ellis (Captain Jimmy Ellis, USN, Retired). His first wife, Ruth Spratling Nabors, with whom he raised their three children, also survives.

Dennis married his junior high school sweetheart, Sarah Scribner Prude, in 2021, and immediately set out to become a mentor and true friend, in his inimitable way, to her children and grandchildren amidst the challenges of the first Covid outbreak. Beneficiaries of his loving mentorship were Sarah, Katherine, Oskar and Wyatt Leineweber. Dennis also became a brother in law, in the truest sense of the implied relationship, to James and Lynn Prude of Dallas.

Dennis' loyalty to his friends is a theme that ran through his entire lifetime and cannot be overstated. Of special note were his business and personal relationships with attorneys "Loree Darling" Skelton and Alva Lambert; his friendship with the late Eddie "Hog" Holden; and his long standing mentor-friendship role with Willie Fred Gamble.

A memorial service in Dennis' honor was held on Wednesday, November 20, at First Global Methodist Church in Amory. The Reverend Wesley Pepper officiated. Serving as Honorary Pallbearers were members of the Parkview Vikings (Springfield, MO) High School 1966-67 football team, of which Dennis was Captain.

In recognition of Dennis' lifetime of mentorship and belief in team sports as an essential building block of a young person's character, two memorials in his name have been established. For those interested in creating a foundation that will establish lasting sports opportunities for young people, contributions in Dennis' name can be made as follows:

Oh Sarah!

I just found this by searching today .. I wish you had called me to let me know.

I´m so sorry! But I know you rejoice that you two were reunited again after high school, and with such great love and compassion for each other. He was lucky to have you by his side.
