Gwendolyn Logan Obituary

Gwendolyn Sue Wright Logan (DOB 9/15/1942 - age 81), of Tupelo, was called home to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ at the North Mississippi Medical Center Hospice Unit on January 16, 2024. Sue is survived by her husband of 59 1/2 years, Robert C. "Blue" Logan, Sr.; two sons and their families: Robert Clark Logan, Jr. (Helen) of Pittsburgh, PA and Chadwick Wright Logan (Keyesy) of Miden, LA; Five grandchildren: Trey (Abbi), Ty (Michaela), Wil (Anna), Hezekiah and Naomi - and one great-granddaughter, Karis Leigh. Sue was preceded in death by her parents, Woodrow Wilson Wright and Beatrice Prestage Wright; her sisters, Jeffie Lou Gatlin and Barbara Jo Wright and her brother, Billy Wayne Wright. If there is a word that could sum up the full scope of Sue's life it would be LEGACY. Through her gifts and talents (especially by sending thousands of cards and notes) the Lord's love was shown to many. She was intentional to share the Gospel with her family and friends, which is a testament to her deep faith. Sue was a faithful member of Harrisburg Baptist Church and its Tutor/Weeks Sunday School class for over 20 years. Church and ministry were of utmost importance to her as seen by the Logan family being faithful to attend worship services (even on vacations). Together, she and Blue helped with Operation Christmas Child at every level for more than 15 years. They collected items and filled boxes, worked at the local collection centers and even took a turn a few years at the regional collections center in Atlanta. She adored her grandchildren and could sit and talk with them for hours or let them win at a game gracefully. She loved her garden and knew the names of every flower. She cooked a mean pot of purple hull peas or butter beans and to this day, no one knows exactly how much seasoning went into them because she would use her hand as the measuring cup. Sue was originally from Water Valley where she was a cheerleader, played on the varsity basketball team and was her class valedictorian. She graduated from Delta State College with a teaching degree because she loved teaching children and Mississippi History was her favorite subject. She continued serving children as a social worker to advocate for children in foster care. Her last career was serving alongside her husband as manager of his State Farm office. Visitation for Sue will be on Friday, January 19, 2024 from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm and on Saturday, January 20, 2024 from 10:00 am to 11:00 am at Parker Memorial Funeral Homes: 476 Highway 9 North, Bruce, MS 38915. https://www.parkermemorialfuneralhomes.com/ Services honoring Sue's life will be held on Saturday, January 20, 2024 at 11:00 am with Dr. Forrest Sheffield and Rev. Rob Armstrong officiating. Interment will follow immediately at Bruce Cemetery. In addition to her grandsons, other pallbearers will be Bryan Maddox, Kevin Chrestman, and her nephew, Jeff Ray. The Tutor/Weeks Sunday Class of Harrisburg Baptist Church will serve as honorary pallbearers. In lieu of flowers, Sue's family asks you to consider a donation to one her favorite causes, either: Operation Christmas Child (a project of Samaritan's Purse): Samaritan's Purse, P.O. Box 3000, Boone, NC 28607 https://www.samaritanspurse.org/memorial-page/sue-logan-tupelo-ms/

Blue and family, we are so sorry for your loss. We love Aunt Sue very much and we know you all are suffering a great loss. We will miss her very much and only her faith will make this loss any less painful. We feel blessed to be an extended part of your family, and we know your trust in our Lord will get you through this. We are so happy that we were able to spend some time with Aunt Sue last year, although it was as sad time as well. You will all be in our prayers.

We are sorry to hear about Sue. She was a very special lady, and we loved her. We had planned to attend the funeral, but you know where we live. The road from the highway to our house has not been graded. Therefore, we are unable to travel over it. We love you too Blue and will keep all the family in our prayers.

It is hard to believe that I had just visited this past October and Sue was in great spirits. This was the first time in many years that I got to visit with both of you. May God keep you in his arms and guild you in the coming days.

Blue, I am so sorry for your loss. Enjoyed knowing her for most of her life. She and her family spent many hours visiting my grandparents. And then reconnected at St Mark along Jeffie.
