Jerry Collins Ellis, 88, when to be with his personal Lord and Savior on Saturday, May 7, 2016 at North Miss. Medical Center. He was born Aug. 9, 1927 in Chickasaw Co. to William Bert and Annie Lou Hadley Ellis, the youngest of 13 children, all of which have preceded him in death and all of which he now rejoins. Since 2012, he has made his home at Shearer-Richardson Nursing Home in Okolona. He was happy, content and appreciate of the care he received there. Until his failing health, he was a faithful member of the New Freedom Full Gospel Church in Okolona and he was not ashamed of the Gospel of Christ. If you would listen, he would share with you how his Jesus had blessed him and his family. He was a veteran of the U. S. Navy, worked a Futorian many years and ran a country store on South Gatlin where you could buy a loaf of bread, a horse, car or diamond ring-a pocket knife, lawn mower or a saddle. Jerry was a master trader and loved a good deal-especially when there was so "boot" involved. His last 26 years of employment were spent at the Okolona Post Office. Jerry and Ola Mae loved life and retirement. They would check their barn every day for the possibility of a new colt, take a trip through downtown Okolona, pick the mail up at the Post Office, talk a little politics and usually stop at Jerry Hall's office to catch up on Okolona "gossip". He loved piddling and whittling and taking the love of his life, his wife-Ola Mae-to lunch either in Okolona, Verona, Tupelo, Pontotoc or Amory. They loved and frequented yard sales, good afternoon knaps and were crazy about their only daughter, Angela, her husband, Carl and their granddaughter, , Charley. His love for his family was unconditional.
A service celebrating his life will be held at 2 PM Monday, May 9, 2016 at the Okolona Chapel of Holland Funeral Directors with Sis. Annie Mae Warren and Bro. Randy Parchman officiating. Burial will be in Oddfellows Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 PM-6 PM Today and from Noon-service time Monday all at Holland-Okolona Chapel, which is honored to be serving this family.
Jerry is survived by his wife, Ola Mae Hadley Ellis, to whom he was married on May 14, 1955, almost 61 years. His children, Angela and Carl Ritchey. His granddaughter, Charlie Thompson and her husband, Chuck all of Okolona. Numerous nieces, nephews, in law's and a host of friends.
