Leon Wood Obituary

Leon Wood, 73, died Monday, December 11, 2023 at North Al. Medical Center, Florence, AL. He was born in Itawamba County, Mississippi to parents, Ellie Mayhall Wood and Jesse Tulon Wood. He was the eleventh child of thirteen children. Leon graduated from Belmont High School in 1969 and later joined the U.S. Navy. There he became ill and received a medical discharge. Afterwards, Leon worked as a truck driver for many years and spent the last several years in the nursing home in Red Bay, AL.

Services will be Thursday, December 14, 2 p.m. at Deaton Funeral Home Chapel, Red Bay, AL with Mike Deaton and Bro. Robert Wood officiating. Burial will be in Burgess Cemetery, Golden, MS. Deaton Funeral Home, Red Bay, AL will be in charge of arrangements.

He is survived by a brother, Eddy Wood, a sister, Glenda Cote and a host of nieces and nephews.

Leon was preceded in death by his parents, brothers, Melvin Wood, James Wood, J.T. Wood, David Wood, an infant brother, Joe Bob Wood, sisters, Evelyn Burton, Betty Sue Witt, Maxine Mabus, Eloise Halstead and Patty Ann Collum and an infant son, Laney Dean Wood.

Pallbearers will be Donnie Wood, Lee Wood, Corey Wood, Joey Cote, Brad Witt, Todd Witt, Keith Collum and Wesley Collum.

Visitation will be Thursday, December 14, 12-2 p.m. at Deaton Funeral Home, Red Bay, AL.
