Margaret Marie Moody Bailey, affectionately known as Marie Bailey, passed away peacefully on January 29, 2026, at the age of 85, with her daughter by her side. Born on November 6, 1940, in Union County, MS, Marie was the cherished only child of Dawson Handley Moody and Willie Lee Dillard Moody, both of whom she now joins in eternal rest, alongside her beloved husband, Bob Bailey, and her adored son, Tracey Bailey.
Marie's life was a beautiful tapestry woven with love, care, and dedication to her family. She leaves behind a legacy of warmth and nurturing through her loving daughter, Sheila Bailey. Her spirit will live on in the hearts of her grandsons, Dustin Whitehead (Misty), Matthew Carter (Misty), Dawson Bailey (Karen), and Colton Bailey (Calie); great grands, Adalynn Bailey, Ainsley Bailey, Harrison Whitehead, and Baiey Whitehead, who will forever cherish the precious memories of the times spent with their doting grandmother.
A woman of faith, Marie's Christian beliefs guided her life and provided comfort and strength to her and those she loved. Her gentle nature and loving heart were evident in everything she did, from her unwavering support to her family to her involvement in her community.
Marie was a true testament to the title of Homemaker, a role she embraced with pride and joy. She had a remarkable talent for making her home a warm and welcoming place, filled with the aroma of her famous chicken and dressing, which was always a highly requested dish at gatherings. Her culinary skills extended beyond her kitchen; she delighted in sharing her meals with her numerous family and friends.
Her interests and hobbies were as nurturing as her personality. Marie was an excellent seamstress, taking joy in crafting beautiful garments with love and precision. Her green thumb flourished in her vegetable garden, where she spent countless hours tending to her plants. The fruits of her labor continued into her kitchen, where she skillfully canned and preserved her garden, much to the delight of her family.
Travel was one of Marie's passions, and she often embarked on adventures with her family of numerous aunts and uncles. She particularly cherished the trips she took with her grandsons, creating moments that would become treasured memories. Her enthusiasm for exploration and her love for her grandsons combined to make each journey an unforgettable experience.
Before Bob passed away, He and Marie shared a special bond through their love for square dancing, making it a cherished activity in their relationship. Not only was it fun to them, but it was also a great way to connect with others and create lasting memories.
Marie Bailey's life was a reflection of her loving and gentle soul. She touched the lives of all who knew her, leaving a lasting impression of kindness, compassion, and grace. Her absence will be deeply felt, but her influence will continue to be a guiding light for her family and friends.
As we say see you later to Marie, we celebrate a life well-lived, a life filled with love, laughter, and the joy of simple pleasures. Her legacy will not be forgotten, and her memory will be held dear in the hearts of those who were fortunate enough to know her.
Services to honor her life will be Thursday, February 5, 2026, at 2:00 pm, at United Funeral Service, with Bro. Keith Carter officiating. A visitation will be held beginning at 12:00 pm until service time. Burial will be at The Community Cemetery.
