Shirley Montgomery Orton

JACKSONVILLE – Shirley Montgomery Orton, 77, passed away July 7, 2015. She spent a gracious life serving, teaching and feeding a multitude of friends, family, and students. She was a master seamstress and a baker of everyone's favorite birthday cake. She loved to sing and listen to bluegrass while eating homemade ice cream. She was serious about dominoes. Her favorite vacations were with family no matter what the location. After retiring from classroom teaching she returned to read to young students every week. She was loved and will be missed, but she left us with joyful memories to sustain us.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Perdie and Erna Montgomery, and two children, Cindy Carol and Don Wesley. She is survived by Don Orton, her husband of 56 years; their two daughters, Jan Case (husband, Jim) and Sherry McClelland (husband, Declan); brother, Larry Montgomery (wife, Delois); and sister, Mary Franks (husband, Jerry). She spent much quality time with her two granddaughters, Catherine (husband, Adam Evans) and Elizabeth Case.
Funeral services will be held at Patterson-Forest Grove Funeral Home in Pleasant Grove, Alabama, today, July 10, at 3 p.m. with visitation at 2 p.m. Burial will follow at Forest Grove Memorial Gardens.
She loved flowers but would also be happy knowing that a donation to a friend's favorite charity had been made in her honor.
