Sophia Whitfield Obituary

Sophia Mae Taylor- Whitfield of Rockford, Il, the widower of Lawrence Victor Whitfield, formally of Tupelo, MS, passed away on November 12, 2017 at the Rosewood Care Center in Rockford, Ill.

She was a member of Spring Hill M.B. Church where she served as a Sunday School Teacher. She graduated form Belden High School, later receiving her Bachelors of Science Degree from Rust College, Masters of Arts Degree from MSU. She was an educator for the public school system for thirty-five years. Her teaching career began with the Lilbourn Missouri Public School System. Later teaching with the Lee County and the Tupelo Public School System.

Her Life Celebration service will be held on Monday, November 20, 2017 at her life-long church, Spring Hill M.B. Church at 11:00 a.m. with the Rev. Rickey Bogan, officiating and Grayson-Porter's Mortuary is honored to be serving the Whitfield family. Online condolence can be made to Taylor/Whitfield family at www.grayson-porters.com

She is survided by her son, Lawrence Terrell Whitfield of Rockford, Ill, one brother; Andrew (Edith) Taylor of Milwaukee, WI. several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Viewing will be on Sunday, November 19, 2017 at the J.W. Porter's Chapel, 1:00 until 3:00 and will be placed in the church one hour prior to funeral service.

Mrs. Whitfield was a favorite 5th grade teacher of mine and inspired me to be a teacher. She was so kind. My condolences to her family.
