Velma South Obituary

RIPLEY – Velma Overa McCown South, 95, passed away Tuesday, April 29, 2014, at Magnolia Place Personal Care Home in New Albany. She was born July 19, 1919, to William David and Dora Lee Whitten McCown. She was a charter member of Whittentown Baptist Church and the last surviving charter member. She was a cafeteria manager at Ripley High School.
Services will be at 3 p.m. today, April 30, at Whittentown Baptist Church with Bro. Steve Glidewell and Bro. Edd McCafferty officiating. Burial will be in Whittentown Church Cemetery. Ripley Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
She is survived by two daughters, Shirley Ann South Carter (Curtis) of Memphis and Dwalia South-Yancey (Roger) of Ripley; one daughter-in-law, Velva Jane Jarvis of Ripley; six grandchildren, Stephanie Carter Lowery of Memphis, Joseph Curtis Carter (Lisa) of Memphis, Tammie South Johnson of Ripley, Terry "Trey" South III (Sandy) of Ripley, Chard Jesse Williams of Ripley and Jack Whitten Williams (Kimmie) of Ripley; 10 great-grandchildren, Zach Lowery, Brad Lowery, Jessica Johnson, Caleb Frenn, Caden South Jackson, Jacie Williams, Molly Lee Williams, Monica Vandergriff, Jordan South and Hailey South; and four great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Terry Vance South Sr; one son, Terry Vance South Jr; one grandchild, Rhonda South Frenn; and one great-grandchild, John Terry Johnson.
Pallbearers will be cousins. Honorary pallbearers will be men of Whittentown Baptist Church and staff of Magnolia Personal Care Home.
Visitation will be from noon today until time for services at 3 p.m. at Whittentown Baptist Church.

. we didn't know until today we regret not going to see Mrs. South in the nursing home we have fond memories of her so sorry for your loss .she is with the Lord now
