RIPLEY – William Edward ""Will Edd"" Norton, 96, passed away Friday, August 14, 2015, at North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo. He was born on September 9, 1918, to Frank Stewart and Annie Lee Nance Norton in Ripley. He was a veteran of the United States Army, serving during World War II and retiring as a W02 from the Mississippi Army National Guard. Before his retirement, he was superintendent of Federal Compress and Warehouse. Mr. Will Edd was an active member of American Legion Post 81 and a faithful member of Pine Hill Primitive Baptist Church.
Services will be today, August 16, 2015, at 2:00 p.m. in McBride Funeral Home Chapel with Elder Darren Owens and Dr. Micah Carter officiating. Burial will follow in Pine Hill Cemetery with military honors.
Visitation will be today, August 16, 2015, from 10:00 a.m. until service time at the Funeral Home.
He is survived by his wife, Laura Harris Norton of Ripley; one daughter, Judy Thompson (Richard) of Haleyville, Ala.; two sons, Eddie Norton (Judy) and Frank Norton (Kathy), both of Ripley; one step-daughter, Jan Pipkin (Carl) of Potts Camp; two step-sons, Scott McMullen (Dana) of Myrtle, Chris McMullen (Kelley) of Desoto County; one sister, Opal Mauney (T.A.) of Dallas, Texas; eight grandchildren, Kelsey McNutt (Todd) of Haleyville, Ala., Kate Thompson of Dallas, Texas, Andi Burch (Andrew), Denver, Colo., Clay Norton (Heather) of Clinton, Jacob Norton (Amanda) of Collierville, Tenn., Joey Mauney (Jennifer) of Oxford, Justin Mauney of Ripley, Kakie Jeter (Rob) of Corinth; three step-grandchildren, Aston and Austin McMullen of Desoto County and Allison Kate Pipkin of Potts Camp; and eight great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Hermie Rutherford Norton; his parents; three sisters, Elizabeth Crawford, Ruth Bennett, and Mary Roper.
Pallbearers will be Clay Norton, Jacob Norton, Todd McNutt, John Braddock, Jerry Webb, Jerry Bennett, Phil Rutherford, Rob Jeter.
Honorary pallbearers will be members of American Legion Post 81.
