Clarence Carter Obituary

Clarence "Clancy" Carter

Clarence "Clancy" Carter, age 83 of La Vergne, TN, formerly of Peabody, Massachusetts, went to be with the Lord on Thursday, October 23, 2014.

A native of Peabody, MA, he was preceded in death by his parents, Clarence A. and Diana M. Duquette Carter; and a sister, Blanche Carter.

Funeral services will be Sunday at 2 p.m., at Giles Creek Baptist Church. Brother Terry Campbell will officiate. Burial will follow in Mapleview Cemetery with Navy honors.

Mr. Carter is survived by his loving wife, Ella Sue Aikens Carter; daughters, Judith Wetmore and her husband Colby of Dracut, MA, and Karen Guy and her husband Tom of Peabody, MA; son, Paul Carter and his husband Ed of Washington DC; step-sons, Christopher Brian Newsom and his wife Missy of Smyrna, and Kevin Newsom and his wife Mary Leigh of Smyrna; granddaughter, Emmaleigh Newsom of Smyrna; sister, Inez D'Alessandro of MA; and several nieces and nephews.

Mr. Carter was a member of Giles Creek Baptist Church. He severed on SS401 Sea Dog Submarine in the United States Navy during the Korean War. Mr. Carter was a graduate of Northeastern University where he received his bachelor's degree in engineering. He was a retired Engineer with Avco Corp. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend and will be greatly missed.

The deacons of Giles Creek Baptist Church will serve as Pallbearers.

Memorials may be made to the Giles Creek Baptist Debt Retirement Fund in memory of Mr. Carter.

Visitation will be Saturday from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m., at Woodfin Chapel in Smyrna, and Sunday from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m., at Giles Creek Baptist Church.

I'll always remember Clancy as "Uncle Clancy", even though he was my 2nd cousin. It was a true honor to be related to such a good man. I'll never forget cruising the Carribean with Uncle Clancy, Ella Sue and my parents and felt happy we had that family bonding time together. Love you Uncle Clancy and may you rest in peace.
