Myrtle Krog Obituary

Myrtle Irene Krog (Nee Williams) June 23, 1920 - January 29, 2014 . Myrtle was born on June 23, 1920, the fourth child and first daughter, to George and Matilda Williams in Plenty, Saskatchewan. She left Saskatchewan in 1938 and came to Vancouver Island where she worked in Coombs at Bakers Store. A few years later, the remainder of the family followed, also settling in Coombs. In 1941, Myrtle married Fred Krog. She took her hairdressing course in 1942, while Fred was in the army. She worked as a hairdresser for many years and eventually became the owner of Parksville Beauty Salon. Even after retirement, Myrtle kept busy looking after the salon at Trillium Lodge. She was a tireless worker; a member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch #49 for 27 years; the RCL Ladies Auxiliary for 58 years; and the Trillium Lodge Auxiliary for over 40 years. Myrtle was predeceased by 6 of her siblings; husband, Fred; and special friend, Harry Huot. She is survived by her daughter Dawn (Rick) Ragan; son, Colin (Barb); grandchildren, Ann Knight, Bob Ragan, Christie MacMullin, Chad Krog, and Cory Krog; 12 great grandchildren; one great great grand daughter; sister, Maxine; numerous nieces and nephew; and friend, Ernie Harris. Many thanks to the staff at Stanford Place Care Campus, particularly the Glenview Unit. A Celebration of Life will be held in Myrtle's honour at 1:30 pm on Saturday, March 8, 2014 at the Royal Canadian Legion - Branch #49, 146 Hirst Avenue in Parksville. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in Myrtle's memory to the Royal Canadian Legion Branch #49 - Mt Arrowsmith, PO Box 820, Parksville BC V9P 2G8.
