SHREVEPORT, LA - Rona Deene Fowler, 80, went to be with our Heavenly Father on Friday, February 14, 2014 one day shy of her 81st birthday. Memorial services celebrating the life of Rona Fowler will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, February 21, 2014 at Linwood Baptist Church in Shreveport, LA. Officiating the service will be Dr. Ed Gonzales. Private inurnment will follow at Forest Park East Cemetery in Shreveport, LA. The family will receive friends from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, February 20, 2014 at Rose-Neath Marshall Street Funeral Home in Shreveport, LA.

Rona was born on February 15, 1933. A Shreveport native, Rona and her parents, J.E. and Evelyn Fowler, were longtime supporters of State and National Republican Party activities, spanning many decades. The Fowlers were also active in many different organizations in the Shreveport area.

While her life was left with tragic deaths of her daughter Elizabeth, and her son Parker, and her father J.E. Fowler, she painted to find joy and therapy from the heartbreaks in life.

Her recent efforts and assistance with the local, multicultural church Linwood Baptist Church, 1622 Midway St., and Rev. Ed Gonzales was Rona's last act of kindness. She had a special connection with people of all cultural backgrounds and was a devout Christian.

She especially had a love for all living creatures. Rona had many wonderful years in the Destin, Florida area where she had many special friends. Rona attended C.E. Byrd High School and loved her C.E. Byrd Babe friends, and was a former member of Sequela Study Club, Hoover Watercolor Society, and Louisiana Artists where she has a painting at the Governor's Mansion. She was truly one of Louisiana's treasures.

She was preceded in death by her parents, John Emmett and Evelyn Allen Fowler; daughter, Elizabeth Turner; son, Parker Turner.

Rona is survived by her granddaughter, Amelia Turner; and a host of cousins, including Tina Dowell Pickett, who Rona referred to as her daughter, and her children, Summer Adams and Golda Pickett whom Rona loved as her own grandchildren. She had a host of extended chosen friends that she treated as family.

Honoring Rona as honorary pallbearers will be Felix Boykins, George Carroll, Chip Fowler, Doug Fowler, and Rex Moncrief.

The family would like to give special thanks to the nurses and medical staff at Willis-Knighton Pierremont, Dr. Parimoo, Nephrology, Dr. Michael R. Moore, Hematology/Oncology, Dr. Veluvolu, Hematology/Oncology, and Dr. Manapragada, Internal Medicine, Dr. David Green, Pulmonary, Dr. Byrd, Surgeon. A special thanks to Dr. Marco Ramos, Neurosurgeon.
