Calvin Copeland Obituary

Calvin Roy Copeland
Kingsdown - Calvin Roy Copeland was born July 22, 1964 in Tribune, KS to parents Ralph and Betty Copeland. Growing up Calvin assisted his family farming operation which spread among three states (Kansas, Colorado, and Nebraska) and consisted of thousands of acres. Along with the row crop operation the family also raised registered and commercial cattle. In his teenage years Calvin traveled the United States showing Limousin cattle where he had many accomplishments. One of his most recognizable is winning the 1981 National Western Stock Show's Champion Overall Limousin Breeding Bull with "Black Ace" the first time a black Limousin won a major show.
On January 9th 1987 Calvin married his wife Lori.
They have two daughters, the oldest being CandiSu and the youngest Cassadie. Calvin and Lori spent their time raising their children in the Agriculture industry where both daughters were 12 year Ford County 4-H members who showed all different varieties of livestock including cattle, sheep, pigs and goats all around the United States. Along with following their children from stock show to stock show Calvin and his family raised cattle (both registered and commercial) and starting in 2006 they began raising meat goats for registered and 4-H market projects. This began a new passion for the family and they exhibited these animals all across the US from Texas to Maine. In recent years Calvin has enjoyed traveling to watch his two grandkids (Kodie age 13, and Kaleb age 10) continue the tradition of showing livestock. Calvin never knew a stranger and on almost every trip no matter the destination was able to find an acquaintance from his livestock showing days. He has mentored, trained, and assisted many families with all kinds of livestock and will be missed by many.
He is survived by wife – Lori, Daughters CandiSu and husband Tucker Fleming, and Cassadie and Jordan Steele and Grandchildren Kodie Fleming (age 13), Kaleb Fleming (age 10), and baby boy Steele due in august 2021.
Funeral service will be held at 10:00 am Wednesday, July 28, 2021 at the Kingsdown Presbyterian Church, Kingsdown, Kansas with Kevin Salzman officiating. Burial will follow the service at Mullinville Cemetery, Mullinville, Kansas. Visitation will be held Tuesday July 27 from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm with the family present at Minnis Mortuary, Bucklin.

We first met Calvin and Lori at the county fair. Our kids all grew up doing 4-H and competing in the show ring. Our aniversary was July 22, and also Calvins birthday, and always during the county fair. Sharon or Tiffany would usually bake him a cake for his birthday, the kids would hand make cards for him. One year it contained a very flat dried up Horny toad! Lol! Our families will always be connected by our 4-H years. He will be missed by many.
