DEBORAH EDDY
DODGE CITY: Deborah Colleen Eddy, 74 died Sunday, November 17, 2024 at SunPorch in Dodge City, Kansas.
Debbie was born on April 23, 1950 at Buffalo, Oklahoma the daughter of Thad Freeman and Sybil Tabor. She graduated Buffalo High School in 1968 and later attended Southwestern Oklahoma State University and graduated with a Bachelor's Degree in Accounting. In 1977, she settled in Dodge City, Kansas where she made her career as an accountant for Chaffin Inc., Dodge City Community College, USD #443, Dodge City Daily Globe and Dodge City Tire--retiring in 2021.
Debbie took pride in serving her community and often sought leadership roles in the organizations with which she volunteered, including serving as President, among other positions, of the Dodge City Area Women's Chamber of Commerce. She was also active in the Red Demon Football Booster Club, served on the Library Foundation Board, Depot Theater Guild and was a member of the First Christian Church all in Dodge City. She sponsored the rabbit project showmanship awards at the Ford County Fair for many years.
In an effort to improve her mobility, Debbie moved to SunPorch in 2023. Consistent with her love to serve others, she actively participated on the Resident Council as well as hosting a daily story time, where she would read a short story to the other residents.
Debbie was a loyal friend. She enjoyed supporting her kids in their activities and endeavors. She loved to decorate--always putting together multiple tablescape settings for the Depot Holiday tables. Her efforts with the table settings were just the tip of the iceberg for what she would do at home where she decorated her house, sometimes to overwhelming detail, for every holiday (seriously, EVERY holiday). Ever generous, she crocheted baby blankets and baby booties for families with new babies until her arthritis and eyesight began to make those hobbies difficult. But she was able to compensate with baking and candy making. Many people may remember getting Christmas goody plates from her with bags of homemade Chex mix, seasoned crackers, cookies, chocolate covered pretzels, and handmade bon bon candies. She loved creating new bon bon flavors and was proud of how well liked her Irish crème and Fireball cinnamon liqueur recipes were. She also loved her two dogs, Obee and Murphy. She would issue them hollow threats and half-hearted scolding when they would drag blankets, toys, or her clothes outside, but they always knew hers was a warm, welcoming lap where they could sit.
In 1980 she married Randall Eddy. They later divorced.
Survivors include: her daughter, Jennifer McCabe, Dodge City; her son, Zac Eddy and Maura (wife), Pratt, Kansas; 2 sisters, Sandy Freeman, Woodward, Oklahoma, and Robin Tate and Steve Chambers (significant other), Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; 3 grandchildren, Sage, Kaia, and Addison; a great grandson, Luca; nieces and nephews, Denise, Jami, Tanner, Derek, Dustin and Lindsay.
