MARK GOODERL ELLIOTT Mark Elliott (75), recently of Winchester, Virginia, passed away peacefully on the morning of September 3rd, 2023, after a long-term struggle with the ill effects of radiation treatment for prostate cancer. Mark Gooderl Elliott was born September 10, 1947, in Topeka, Kansas to Wendell and Frances Elliott. He grew up attending public schools in Dodge City from kindergarten through one year of junior college. After earning a BA degree from the University of Arizona in 1969, Elliott joined the Peace Corps and served three years in agricultural programs, first in Peru and later in Brazil. At the end of his service in September 1973, traveling in Southern Brazil, he met Nina Botovchenco. A little over three months later, they were married in a small ceremony in Flagstaff, Arizona where Elliott had returned to work in the family business. Upon graduation from Thunderbird School of International Management in 1979 with an international MBA, he got a job that sent him to Bogota, Colombia. Their two sons were born there: Daniel Martin Elliott in 1981; and Michael Anthony Elliott in 1982. After a couple of years in Colombia, Elliott moved his family to Brazil where they stayed until 1989. Yearning to return to the United States, however, Elliott relocated to the Chicago suburbs, living and working there until his retirement in 2018. Mark Elliott was a wonderful husband and an amazing dad and grandad. He was a lifelong sports fan, an avid reader, and an informed, involved citizen. He loved to cook, travel, and spend time with his family. Aside from his widow of 49 years and his two sons, Elliott is also survived by two grandsons, Maxwell Jan Elliott and Alexander Milosz Elliott. He was preceded in death by his parents and two older brothers, Sam and Wen Elliott. His ashes were spread in the Shenandoah River just outside of Front Royal, Virginia.
