Dodge City - Richard Dean Ridge passed away on Thursday,July 22, at the age of eighty-eight years. He was born on August 23, 1932 at Dodge City, the son of John Henry and Ruby Irene (Thomas) Ridge.
Richard grew up in Dodge City and was a graduate of Dodge City High School. He served in the United States Navy during the Korean War. After serving in the military, he continued his education and received his Masters Degree from Emporia State University. Richard was a professor of science and mathematics at Dodge City Community College for 36 years. He enjoyed riding his motorcycle, traveling, and running marathons. Richard most enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren; he was a devoted grandfather. He also loved animals and helped foster kittens and rescue cats.
Richard was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Dodge City where he served as President of the local branch for several years and afterward branch financial clerk for 20 years. He also served as the Church's district financial clerk and auditor for several years.
Richard is survived by a daughter, Judy Smith and husband Lyle of Dodge City; a son, Robert Ridge and wife Kathy of Springville, Utah; nine grandchildren and several great grandchildren; a brother, Jerry and wife Ruth of Garden City and a sister, Nancy Ridge of Dodge City. Richard was preceded in death by his parents, a son, Richard Lee Ridge; two brothers, Jack and Butch Ridge, and a sister, Patricia Looney.
A graveside service will be held on Monday, July 26, at 11:00 AM at Maple Grove Cemetery in Dodge City with Military Honors by the US Navy Honor Guard.
