John Gonion Obituary
John F. Gonion, 55, of Sturgeon Bay, died peacefully Thursday, March 24, 2016 at Golden Living Center-Dorchester in Sturgeon Bay.
He was born December 16, 1960 in Green Bay, the son of the late Albert "Bud" and Jeanne (DenRuyter) Gonion. John worked with his friend, Jason "Buck" Carlson, doing industrial floor coating. He also drove semi for several years. Following his retirement due to failing health, John provided a local handyman service in Door County.
On September 5, 1997, he married Brenda (Bagnall) Gonion in Maplewood.
His family would describe John as fun loving, caring and adventurous. John would help anyone who needed a hand. He loved being outside to hunt and especially to fish. John also liked to go scrapping, again it allowed him to be outside. Throughout all his ill health, he loved living and never gave up the good fight.
Survivors include his wife, Brenda of Sturgeon Bay; best friend and rock, Mike Kuehn of Sturgeon Bay; brother, Mike Gonion of Green Bay (and his children, Laurie, Jimmy, Mary, Kevin); two additional brothers also survive; along with two nieces, Tracy and Shelly; special cousin, Katie who was like a daughter; his mother-in-law, Esther Bagnall; brother-in-law, Tim (Dana) Bagnall of Green Bay; sisters-in-law, Pam (Steve) Krauel, Patty (Richard) Birnschein, Bonnie Bagnall, all of Sturgeon Bay; along with a niece; nephews; and five great-nieces.
John was preceded in death by his parents, Albert and Jeanne Gonion; brother, Dan Gonion; sister-in-law, Vanessa Gonion; and father-in-law, George Bagnall.
A funeral service will be held at 7:00 p.m., Thursday, March 31, 2016 at Huehns Funeral Home in Sturgeon Bay with Lay Minister Gary Scharrig officiating. John will be laid to rest at 2:30 p.m., Friday, April 1, 2016 in Lakeview Cemetery in Jacksonport.
Visitation for family and friends will be held at Huehns Funeral Home, Thursday evening, from 4:00 p.m. until the time of service.
