Amelia McLendon Peek

Amelia McLendon Peek, 88, passed away with family by her side on January 3rd, 2024. She was a strong Christian and loved the lord.

Amelia was born in Union Springs, AL on August 12th, 1935 to Fred and Lillian McLendon. She graduated from Union Springs High School in Union Springs, Alabama.

She attended Finch College in Manhattan New York City. She then transferred to Auburn University where she received her B.S. Degree in Elementary Education.

While attending college she was a member of the Kappa Delta Sorority and met the love of her life Charlie Peek.

After college, Amelia taught Kindergarten at South Columbus Elementary School in Columbus, GA.

Amelia married Charles Ray Peek on February 27th, 1958. They moved to Dothan, Alabama where they lived and raised their two children Chuck and Amy.

In 1976 they moved to Bay Point in Panama City Beach, FL where Charles was Vice President of marketing. They made many friends and enjoyed boating & fishing. Amelia played tennis on the Bay Point tennis team. She was president of the Bay Point Womens Club in 1981 and the third Queen of the Krewe of Dominique Youx in 1989.

In 2016, she became a great grandmother to Crew Counts, in 2017 to Kaelyn Barr and 2021 to Carson Barr. Her great grandchildren were her Sunshine!!

Amelia was preceded in death by Charles Peek on September 6th, 2008. She is survived by her sister, Sarah Richardson of Union Springs, AL; son, Chuck Peek (Melanie); daughter, Amy Counts (Steve) of Panama City Beach, FL; two grandchildren and their spouses, Stephen Counts (Lacy) and Kristen Barr (Chris) of Panama City Beach, FL; three great-grandchildren, Crew Counts (7), Kaelyn Barr (6) and Carson Barr (2); nieces, Pam Bordelon, Amy Singleton, Sally Parker and Jennifer Oestrike; and one nephew, Philip Richardson.

A memorial service will be held Wednesday, January 10th, 2024 at 1pm at Kent Forest Funeral Home, 2403 Harrison Ave Panama City, FL 32405. A celebration of life will be held after at the home of Amy & Steve Counts.

The family would like to thank the staff and nurses at Charter Senior Living in Panama City Beach. In addition, a special thank you to the staff of Emerald Coast Hospice: Linda, Diane and Marti Harp (who was also her dear friend). Memorial contributions may be made to Emerald Coast Hospice.

In memory of Amelia, she asks that you plant a flower and think of her. Listen to music and sing and dance and remember her. Be kind to everyone and God Bless the USA!
