Barbara Hudson Obituary

Barbara Hudson

TALLAHASSEE, FL - Barbara Hudson, 86, of Tallahassee, Florida. died Friday, August 19, 2022 at her residence surrounded by family as well as support from Big Bend Hospice.

Funeral services will be held at 1 pm, Monday, August 29th, at Thomasville Road Baptist Church with Chaplain Joe Sobodowski and Rev. Joshua Blight officiating. Interment will follow the ceremony at Culley's Meadowwood Memorial Park in Tallahassee, Florida. Mrs. Hudson's daughters, Kimberly Fenior, Lisa Starling, and Jolie Ozbun, will present the eulogy.

Barbara Hudson was born September 9, 1935, in Detroit, Michigan, to the late Charles Alexander and Mary Teresa Fitzgerald Donaldson. As a girl she enjoyed ice skating and roller skating, picking apples from their orchard, and playing outdoors with her Springer Spaniel named "Tippy." In high school she enjoyed serving as a military liaison and hostess for the USO. Upon her graduation from St. Mary's Catholic High School in Miami, she earned a business license from a local business school. This gave her the opportunity to work as a switchboard operator for several years. On July 9, 1960, she met and married the love of her life, Huey Hudson, her husband of 61 years. Together they raised a family of six children in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida, of which she counted it her great privilege to be called "Mom." After their move to Dothan, Alabama, she worked for Ansell, Inc., as a medical tester in Dothan, Alabama. She also served her community as President of the Republican Women for the state of Alabama.

Together with her husband and six children, she loved to travel all over the U.S. in their camper. In addition, she was an avid reader, a card "connoisseur", attended weekly Bible studies, and enjoyed cooking and journaling. She and her husband also loved watching their favorite team, Auburn University, play college football. Mrs. Hudson was very devoted to God and her family as she was a woman of a strong Biblical faith. She was a member of Thomasville Road Baptist Church in Tallahassee, Florida, and formerly attended First Presbyterian Church in Dothan, Alabama, for many years. She served as a Children's Sunday School teacher, a Financial Peace Advisor, and as a choir member.

She is survived by her six children: her son, Huey Darrell Hudson of Wilmington, Del.; her daughter, Kimberly Terese Fenior and Darrin of Bainbridge, GA; her daughter, Lisa Irma Starling and Jeff of Tallahassee, FL; her son, Shane Patrick Hudson and Deborah of Cumming, GA; her daughter, Jolie Dawn Ozbun and Greg of Tallahassee, FL; and her son, Sean Corey Hudson and Amanda (Mandy) of Tallahassee, FL.; grandchildren: DeAnna Hudson of Geneva, AL; Patrick Fenior of Washington, DC, Taylor and (Shane) Fenior of Tallahassee, FL; Colton Starling of Truckee, CA, Hudson Starling, Karissa Starling of Tallahassee, FL; Billy (Hanson) Ozbun, Amber Ozbun, and Chloe Ozbun of Tallahassee, FL.; Zachary Hudson of Tallahassee, FL; great-grandchildren: Graeson and Emma Hetterling, and Sawyer Phipps. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband of 61 years: Huey Carroll Hudson, and eight brothers and sisters.

The family suggests those desiring to send memorials in honor of Barbara may send them to Thomasville Road Baptist Church, 3131 Thomasville Road, Tallahassee, Fl. 32308. Donations in lieu of flowers will go to Big Bend Hospice and Gadsden Women's Pregnancy Center of Tallahassee, FL.

So sorry for your loss. She was a fine woman that I remember growing up when she went to Central Baptist Church.
