Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 19, at Southern Heritage in the Clearman Chapel with the Rev. Coley M. Holloway officiating. Burial will follow in the Crestlawn Memorial Cemetery in Avon. The family will be receiving friends at the funeral home from 6 to 8 tonight.
Flowers will be accepted or memorial contributions may be made to the American Lung Association of Alabama, 3125 Independence Drive, Suite 325, Birmingham, AL 35209.
Mr. Smith was born on June 30, 1938, in Houston County the son of the late James Millard and Maebell Wiggins Smith. He worked for Home Oil Co. as a service station manager for a number of years and also worked with Coffman International as a parts manager for nearly 20 years. Mr. Smith was a member of the Union Springs Free Will Baptist Church and was a lifelong resident of Ashford. Mr. Smith was an avid Alabama football and Dale Earnhardt fan. He also had a great love for chickens.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Robert Earl Smith.
Survivors include wife, Linda Sue Nix Smith, Ashford; two sons, Danny Ray Smith (Kim), Dothan and Jackie Smith (Vickie), Doerun, Ga.; two stepdaughters, Sue Williams (Ronald), Pansey, and Dawn Townsell (Lloyd), Ashford; four stepsons, Earl Johnson (Roni), Ashford, Bobby Johnson (Ruby), Abbeville, Robert Johnson (Missy), Moreno Valley, Calif., Michael Dyson (Hope), Ashford; a sister, Carrie Mae Dickerson (Alford), Lovetown; two brothers, Billy Joe Smith (Gloria), Dothan and James C. Smith, Ashford; brother-in-law, Gene Nix (Grace), Colquitt, Ga.; 25 grandchildren.
Active pallbearers will be Jeffery Johnson, Wesley Johnson, Scotty Williams, Tyrad Williams, Brian Roddam and Rusty Tolar.
