Daniel Guy Obituary

Daniel Elmo Guy, 81, of Marianna, died Saturday, Sept. 20, 2008, at Marianna Health and Rehab Center.

Funeral services are 11 a.m. Monday, Sept. 22, 2008, at Maddox Chapel with the Revs. Bob McKibben and Jill Berquist-Wallace officiating. Burial will follow at Pinecrest Memorial Gardens with James & Sikes Funeral Home Maddox Chapel directing.

The family will receive friends from 10 to 11 a.m. Monday prior to services at Maddox Chapel.

Danny was born Jan. 17, 1927, in Bascom, Fla., to the Rev. Daniel Norton Guy and Grady Shelley Guy. He worked on the family farm until he enlisted in the Navy and was medically discharged in 1945. He worked at McCaskill Motor Co. as a mechanic until December 1952 when he joined the Marianna Fire Department as a fireman. He climbed to the rank of assistant chief before retiring in 1975. Danny thoroughly enjoyed being a fireman and anytime he could help someone, he was ready. He always put his crews' safety ahead of saving a building unless someone was in the building. He believed that if it wasn't safe for him then it wasn't safe for the other firemen. He was a member of the Jaycees during the late 1950s, the Marianna Elks Club #1516, Grade United Methodist Church, and later the First United Methodist Church.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother Joel Antee Guy, who died while serving in the Mariana Islands of the South Pacific for the Navy in 1942; and two sisters, Edna Wiggins and Ruth Goldberger.

He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Zade Streetman Guy; a nephew/son, James F. Streetman and wife, Sandra, of Marianna, Fla.; a niece/daughter, Laura Streetman Johnson and husband, Myron, of Headland; a special nephew, George Adams and wife, Martha, of Enterprise; two brothers, Dempsey Guy and Herman P. Guy Sr., or Marianna; three brothers-in-law, David Goldberger, Kent Wiggins, and Bubba Streetman and wife, Helen, all of Marianna, Fla.; one sister-in-law, Toollie Harkins and husband, Jimmy, of Marianna; six grandchildren, Shanna Gainer and husband, Ken, of Chipley, Mandy Rogers of Chipley, Michael Parris and wife, Betsy, of Headland, Terry Clarke and wife, Diana, of Pennsylvania, Kylie Johnson Morgan and husband, Braxton, of Headland, and Kassidy Streetman of Panama City, Fla.; and five great-grandchildren, Chelsea Hill, Jaymn Rogers, Ella Parris, Kory Morgan, Shade Barfield, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Marianna Fire and Rescue members will serve as
pallbearers.

Flowers will be accepted or contributions may be made to the First United Methodist Church "Discretionary Fund for the Needy," Covenant Hospice, or your favorite charity.

Dear Zade,
I remember Danny coming over to our house often to visit with my dad (Lamar Guy) when I was a child. I remember him being a very nice person. I just want to let you know my thoughts and prayers are with you and your family through this time of sorrow.
