Funeral services will be held at 2:30 p.m., Tuesday, June 26, 2007, in the Memphis Baptist Church with the Revs. Ernest C. O'Neal and Dave Collins officiating. Burial will follow in the Pleasant Hill Free Will Baptist Cemetery, near Headland. Holman-Headland Mortuary is in charge of funeral arrangements. The family will receive friends from 1 until 2:30 p.m. Tuesday in the sanctuary of the Memphis Baptist Church.

THE ANGELS WERE CALLING

The day I was borned,my parents lives changed,
they called me David Michael,that was my name.
I brought to their lives a bundle of joy,
yes,I was their angel,their baby boy.
When I'd go to sleep,
they'd both take a peep,
to make sure I was alright,
even all through the night.
And when I would cry,
they were both by my side,
waiting to cuddle me,
the way a baby should be.

When I started to school,
I thought it was cool.
I met many new friends,
like there was no end.
As I grew older,
I became a little bolder.
And all through my years,
not seeing any fears.

I had one hobby that I loved to do,
that was skateboarding with my friends...'cause they loved it too.
I enjoyed acting up, not meaning to be rude;
but learning new tricks and saying,"That was awesome DUDE!!!"

I was riding one day in the car with my friends,
not having any thought...life was coming to an end.
I was only sixteen,when on that tragic day,
it happened so quick,my life slipped away.
The angels came calling,calling my name,
they took me up with them but my friends here remained.
Now I'm up above them with new angel friends too,
with no choice to leave my loved ones,I know they'll miss me too.
But I hope when you think of me I can still make you laugh...
even though I'm a memory of your joyful past.

I remember the day that you was born...baby boy,I went on a shopping spree and bought you everything that I thought you might need.Yes honey, you was the apple of my eye.When I looked into your big brown eyes you just melted my heart.Yes, you was always a little cutie pie and I loved you from day one.I'm so sad that your life on this earth was so short, but now you will live forever and ever.
If tears could have brought you back...you would have never left us.Honey we all prayed and prayed that God would spare your life with us but I guess that He had better plans for you.I don't know why you had to leave us at such a young age but I guess that God had His reasons. We are all so sorry for what happened to David Michael.I wished I could tell you in words things that would be comforting to you and David,but I know that words can't be comforting at this moment.I know that it is going to take time for this loss to heal,but in time God will heal this pain just like he did with mama.Yes, I know that this is a lot worse, but sis this is going to take more time.I'm so sorry for you but I'll be here for you and I'll continue praying for you.

As the mother of a son whose life was shortened last month as the result of a vehicular accident, I want your family to know they are in my prayers, I understand the pain and I know others will allow God to use them to carry you thru the storm as they have our family.

I didn't know David like the back of my hand, but I knew him well. He was an amazing kid. He was always smiling, always making people laugh about something. He had so much a head of him and could have made it so far in life. David had this inner strength that is very rare. It's stronger than any strength. Johnston family,
I met David, Carmen, and Cameron at the Little Red Schoolhouse backyard Bible clubs. Our church sponsored these each summer. I have a twin sister and we always looked forward to coming to Coggins because we knew we would see David, Carmen, and Cameron. These kids and a few others were the only ones we remembered each summer. It seemed that Your children always remembered us. It didn't matter where I was they recognized me. Just the other day I saw Cameron at Water World and she came to me and spoke. David was a great kid. Under all his tuffness, he had the biggest heart. He had a contaminating smile. We do not always understand why God chooses to take a loved one home and we do not have to. All He ask is that we trust that His will is perfect. God has said that He will never give us anymore than we can bear. Just know that God is with you through all of this. Be comforted that one day you too can be with David. My heart is breaking for you in your pain. Be reminded that I am praying on your behalf. May God's perfect peace comfort your entire family in this time.

even though i didnt know david very well i could easily tell he was and still is an amazing caring and loving person, i believe he was called to heaven to watch over us all as a guardian angel in heaven. he did what he was put here to do, he touched the lives of many children, teens and adults as well! for the time we did spend with him it was time spent with joy. im truly sorry for his family's lost but know he is there beside yall every minute of this even though you may not be able to see him.

You will always be on my mind and in my heart. I will never forget you David. You have been like a big brother to me. I will always remember the times we had at the skate park and all the nights we would stay out and skate and mom would fuss at all of us to take a shower because we would stink up my room. To my dearest family, some things I'd like to say...
but first of all, to let you know, that I arrived okay.
I'm writing this from heaven. Here I dwell with God above.
Here, there's no more tears of sadness; here is just eternal love.

Please do not be unhappy just because I'm out of sight.

That day I had to leave you when my life on earth was through,

God gave me a list of things, that he wished for me to do.
And foremost on the list, was to watch and care for you.
And when you lie in bed at night, the day's chores put to flight.
God and I are closest to you....in the middle of the night.

When you think of my life on earth, and all those loving years
because you are only human, they are bound to bring you tears.
But do not be afraid to cry; it does relieve the pain.
Remember there would be no flowers, unless there was some rain.

I wish that I could tell you all that God has planned.
But if I were to tell you, you wouldn't understand.
But one thing is for certain, though my life on earth is o'er.
I'm closer to you now, than I ever was before.

There are many rocky roads ahead of you and many hills to climb;
but together we can do it by taking one day at a time.
It was always my philosophy and I'd like it for you too...
that as you give unto the world, the world will give to you.

If you can help somebody who's in sorrow and pain,
then you can say to God at night......"My day was not in vain."
And now I am contented....that my life has been worthwhile,
knowing as I passed along the way, I made somebody smile.

So if you meet somebody who is sad and feeling low,
just lend a hand to pick him up, as on your way you go.
When you're walking down the street, and you've got me on your mind;
I'm walking in your footsteps only half a step behind.

And when it's time for you to go.... from that body to be free,
remember you're not going.....you're coming here to me.
